Any DC Metro girls on?

As always last minute DH want me to come down to DC since he is down there for work I am going to take the MARC line to the Washington station. (I don't feel like driving since it will be after naptime and she will be awake). I would need to take the METRO to the Old Ebbitt Grill. Has anyone taken their stroller on the MARC or the METRO? I talked to the girl at MARC just now and she said there is not a place to stow the stroller but I just cannot imagine no one takes a stroller on the train or subway.

Re: Any DC Metro girls on?

  • We take our umbrella stroller on the Metro all the time -- unless you're on it during rush hour, there is plenty of room to park the stroller in the aisle.  MARC, I don't know...
  • Loading the player...
  • You should be fine on either.  I don't believe I have ever been on the MARC, but on the metro you will definitely be ok.  Especially in hte middle of the day.
  • Thanks ladies! I thought it would be fine. I kept asking the girl are you sure I can't take the stroller?
  • I've never been on the MARC, but I've done the Metro with a stroller a ton of times.  I've even used our big jogging stroller and it has been fine.  If it's crowded, we sometimes fold the stroller and hold DS instead.  It really only gets crowded during big events or rush hour though.  Otherwise, there's tons of room.
  • bonus ?

do you know the best metro stop for old ebbitt?

  • I'd go to Metro center so you don't have to change lines.  i think on the MARC that there isn't room like in the metro, so you'll probably end up folding the stroller and holding DC (I think its set up more like a normal train instead of the metro having standing room).
  • The MARC is very much like an Amtrak train and in the middle of the day, there will be plenty of room to stow it. If I'm not mistaken, there are shelves on the top of the seats (like airplane compartments but w/o doors) so you should be golden.

Metro Center is your stop. This is from their website:

Take red, orange or blue line trains to the Metro Center stop. Exit the Metro via the 13th St. Exit to 13th & G Streets. Walk two blocks west to 15th Street. The Ebbitt is located between F & G on 15th Street.

    Have fun!

  • I don't think it would be a problem on either the Metro or the MARC at this time of day.  During rush hour would be dicey b/c the MARC is freaking packed during rush hour.

And I second Toos, Metro Center is your stop.  Have fun!  I love Old Ebbit Grille.

  • When we lived in MD a few years ago, we used to see strollers all the time.  I can't imagine not being able to take it.  It won't be during rush hour so it won't be as crowded, I would think.  It's been a while!!
  • Take an umbrella stroller. You'll have to fold it down before you get on MARC and store it over the seat, there's a bin. Your little one will love the MARC.
  • OMG I love you all and Toos thanks for the line info. I am sooooooo public transportation dumb. The idea of having to switch to two different trains just messes me up. I love you all. I get s lost figuring out the stops the times the direction. Ugh lol I am such a suburbanite. If my SUV doesn't fit there I usually don't go lol.

Well, I don't know what the MARC is like, but the Metro will be easy peasy for you.  All lines go to Metro Center. :)   You don't have to worry about times.  The trains come all of the time.  Every 15 minutes or so, I believe.  And, you can always act like a tourist and ask someone that looks like they know what they're doing.  I'm always more than happy to help someone out if they ask for help. :)
