1) The hospital/doctors should respect her wishes to at least try the vag birth 1st. If there's complications, they should move her for a fast C-Sec. However, they should also let her know that it's a higher risk for the vag & make her sign a waiver stating she was fully informed of all risks & has choosen to go for a vag deliv unless complications arise that force her into havig a C-Sec in order to save the baby.
2) On her part, Yes, she should get to choose her prefered method of delivery. However, I know a woman who had a baby & needed an emer C-Sec. With her 2nd, she wanted a vag deliv but was informed how risky it could be & for the safety of the baby, she went with another C-Sec. Part of me feels this lady is being selfish & not fully considering the risk she may be exposing her unborn baby to in the delivery room. Plus, having a vag deliv is more important than having your husband there with you??? I could never make a choice that meant DH not even being able to be at the hospital I'm at.
My Mom delivered my 3 sisters vaginally after having me in a
C-section. They delivered my sister closest in age to me in a teaching
hospital, and when my Mom came close to delivering, they heard people
screaming down the halls to come see the VBAC. When they looked up as
my sister was born, they say the room looked like the Verizon
commercials with a gigantic audience. I guess because my Mom had very
safe and healthy deliveries after me, I have always thought VBACs just
happen. Now I am so scared of having a C-section with my first (a-
because I am afraid of all surgery) because it seems it can truly stick
you into one option in birthing.
I was looking around the internet for some thoughts on VBACs,
and I actually found an interesting entry on the Duggars website. I
just think this is an interesting perspective, seeing as Michelle has
delivered 18 children! From Duggarfamily.com::
"I would say the greatest change that I have seen in
the field of obstetrics, and I might add that it is very troubling to
me, is the idea that once you?ve had a C-section you must have a
C-section for any other pregnancy. It is much healthier for mom and
baby to avoid major surgery and all the complications that go along
with a C-section if possible. Granted, there are health situations that
would warrant such, but for years obstetrics encouraged TOL (Trial Of
Labor after previous C-section) with many successful healthy vaginal
births. It was quite alarming to be told that I could no longer have a
vaginal birth due to hospital or insurance companies regulations. It
appears that what is best for the patient is not the priority with this
decision. I feel our health care is being jeopardized by this unhealthy
approach. Doctors are having to tell their patients that they no longer
offer VBAC assistance due to hospital regulations and some might even
state to the patient that they are not safe so as to avoid
confrontation. Statistics prove much differently. For the many women
that find themselves in this situation, ICAN is an organization that is
very helpful in gaining more information on this topic. One of which I
believe will be reversed in the near future as more women make a clear
statement to health care providers and insurance companies as to how
they would prefer to deliver there babies in a safer, healthier manner.
(Now I will step off my soapbox!)"

Thanks for posting this. The fact that a woman has no say in how she gives birth really irritates me. If the hospital wants to protect their a$$, they could just have her sign a waiver.
the thing is, she's already had 1 vbac and the hospital that has now changed their policy. she said that she was grateful for the c-section that she had because it saved her son's life. she just wants a chance to have another vbac. i say more power to her, i don't really get how she's being selfish.
1. She's being selfish for choosing a VBAC over her DH being there for the delivery.
2. She should be able to choose the type of birth she wants. If she has to shop around, so be it.
3. The hospital is a business, just like any other. They have their policies and that's their choice. It's the same as catholic hospitals not performing any birth control surgeries. Their choice.

This is why it is import to talk to your OB/GYN about your birth plan. There are many docs that are not comfortable with doing a vaginal birth after a Cesarean.
She's dumb for not looking for a hospital closer to home to deliver.
If you think it's "selfish" to choose a VBAC after having an emergency c-section YOURSELF then please feel free to chime in, otherwise I hate to be a biotch but If this is your first delivery you really have no room to talk.
Re: Not sure if this has been posted
I have mixed feeling on this.
