Someone told me once L would never need a bottle, since I was going to be home with him till 5 months and at that point he could learn to use a cup, but even at 6 months I'm not sure he's ready for the cup. I've tried giving him a cup (a couple of different kinds) and feel like he'd rather just bang it around than drink from it. When he does try to sip from it he just gets air, cause he doesn't get that he has to tip it. We try to help him, but he pulls down on it and it makes it hard.
When did your LO start learning to use a cup? How did you teach them to drink from it? What did you put in it (water, BM/formula, juice)?
Re: When/how did you introduce a sippy cup?
I started giving him one around 4 months, really just to play with while we ate.
I'd say he started practicing with it around 6 months, really got the hang of it around 8 months (daycare actually ditched the bottles then & put all his BM in a sippy).
Usually we just used water until he got the hang of it. I was not going to risk wasting BM! lol

We started a sippy cup at 6 months..it took a little while for her to get the hang of it, but she's getting really good with it at 8 months now. She definitely has to wear a wateproof bib though bc she spits it out all the time..I think she thinks it's funny. We use a Nuby cup bc it has a soft silicone top so she can't hurt herself with it and it is spill-proof.
So far, we only put water in it or 1 part juice diluted with 3 parts water bc she has a hard time going to the bathroom most days since starting solids.
DD still doesn't totally understand how to work a sippy cup, I see kids her age at daycare use sippy cups and they definitley have different skills. Even for bottles she doesn't reach to hold on to it- she would much rather have the cup/bottle held for her.
She did take to a straw cup very easily though- around 7/8 months. We always filled the cups with water but now I'm trying to introduce milk (which she refuses most of the time no matter what I put it in).
