Attn GDers - the diet works! (had my baby)

Hey ladies,

For those of you who are struggling with the GD diet, i just wanted to give some words of encouragement....all of the finger pricking, sacrificing what you REALLY want to eat, writing down every darn thing that goes in your mouth, etc etc is TOTALLY worth it.  I was diagnosed early in my 3rd tri, and every time I had an ultrasound it seemed like she was measuring pretty big, so I was freaking out thinking I'd never be able to deliver any way but a csection, or would be ripped apart, would have a scary induction, stuff like pre-e or a premature delivery, etc etc...

WELL i had my baby girl on saturday 10/10 - went into spontaneous labor on my due date, how's that...LOL.  She is totally healthy, blood sugar is perfect, and she was only 7lbs 2 oz...and 21 in long!  In other words, just because you have GD doesn't mean you're destined to have a huge baby.  I also had a fairly easy vaginal delivery with no tearing or anything...I guess she was little enough that it was fine.

So keep it up - it's a big sacrifice but you should also know that the donut I ate yesterday was the best thing I've ever tasted....and my daughter is the prettiest thing I've ever seen. Big Smile

Here's the long and skinny Emma Grace (sorry, the only pic i have uploaded has the silly ointment in her eyes lol)

  • Now that is AWESOME!

Thank you for your words.. i am constantly worrying about having a c-section, about tearing, about the baby being 12 pounds, about the baby being diabetic, ohhhh.. the worries! it's so nice to see that it does not have to happen.

I just can't wait for my donut!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Congrats! she's beautiful! ;)

  • Congratulations -- she's perfect! And thanks for the encouragement. I'm getting induced tomorrow and am TERRIFIED that this kid is going to be gigantic. Hope he's more toward 7 lbs than 10.

    Enjoy your LO!

  • Thanks!  I know we all worry about all of that stuff!  I can't wait to have a big cup of coffee and a runny yoked poached egg on toast for some reason but a donut does sound good...
  • Congratulations! And that is really encouraging and it's good to know all the hard work leads to such healthy babies in the end!
  • What a BEAUTIFUL story and an even more beautiful baby girl!!! Congrats! : )

I need to hear encouraging stories like this.  I'm only on my first day of insulin and am overwhelmed with it all.
