Washing Baby Clothes - retaining softness?

Mom wanted to wash LO's clothes to get the nursery started. I gave her the detergent we use (it's an eco friendly, very mild- organic detergent that we love for our clothes).

However, I noticed that the clothes aren't as soft and cuddly to touch as when we received them.

She washed them on gentle, dried them on delicate just to take the dampness out and then let them line drive (she loved seeing the baby clothes on the clothesline in her laundry room).

Has anyone else notice this and....any recommendations on making them feel brand new soft?

Since we can't use fabric softner or dryer sheet, we use dryer balls. They work with no chemicals.

Its the line drying that does it! I use dryer balls with baby clothes too, now that my son is older I hang his clothes to dry b/c it saves money, but when he was little, little I would dry them in the dryer with dryer balls on gentle or delicate.

I second about the line drying. Line drying makes clothes stiff. I like dreft too.

use dryer balls and fluff clothes for a few minutes in the dryer after they come off the line. Also add some vinegar to the wash it should help.

Vinegar is supposed to do wonders for softness.

I haven't noticed anything different w/ his clothes after washing them. I was using cold water and arm & hammer free detergent. Dry on medium heat.

Line drying always makes all my clothes stiff...even when I use liquid fabric softener in the wash with it. Throw them in the dryer with a dryer sheet for a few minutes and it should soften them up.
