Parenting after 35

Two Month Well Visit Update

First the good stuff because, unfortunately, there was some "not-so-good" as well.

Weight / Birth: 9 lb ? 2 Mos: 13 lb 8 oz (90th percentile)

Length / Birth: 20.5 in. ? 2 Mos: 23 in. (50th percentile)

His head circumference is also in the 50th percentile. I asked if I should worry re: weight but at this age I was told no.

He seems to have handled his shots OK so far. But I know things can change. I hope he stays well.

Formula ? due to his constipation, I'm going to try to go back to the Enfamil Premium Lipil.  If he gets very gassy/fussy again then I'm to stay with the Gentlease.

The not-so-good:

He has a neck muscle condition called Torticollis ( https://www.babycenter.com/0_torticollis_10912.bc ) and needs physical therapy. :-(

He also has flat head. Mommy hasn't been so good with tummy time lately.  Ladies... make sure your baby has enough! I feel so guilty!! But my pedi says it's early enough to correct itself without a helmet.

His Hydrocele hasn't corrected itself so he needs a testicular ultrasound?and one of his hips re: the Torticollis.

My DH is panicking about this. Bleh. I feel awful. Even though I know that most of this is not due to anything I did. But I have a major guilt complex and am feeling like it was. Bleh.

  • Oh Robyn- I am so sorry you had some news that wasn't good. But in reading about the Torticollis, it seems pretty easily treatable with therapy and exercise.

Thanks for the reminder about tummy time.

Aaron is such a big boy! That's great! Hopefully the Premium will help his constipation issue.

  • Glad all went well for the most part!  Big guy!  And do not beat yourself up about any of that -- it is all fixable and has been detected early.  That's your job as a parent and you are working to resolve the issues now.  Sounds like you are doing a great job, mom!

  • I'm so glad to hear he's doing well with his shots and so sad to hear about the not so good news. Luckily it all sounds easily treatable.

    Hugs to both you guys!

Ditto this. Don't beat yourself up.  You are doing everything you can for your little guy.

  • What a big boy, Callie will be 2 months tomorrow. I am excited to see how big she got. I have a friend's son who is getting PT for the same condition and it has only been a few weeks and she sees a big improvement. I hope all of his medical conditions resolve themesleves. But it sounds like he will be fine :0) Thank goodness....Do not feel awful you have done nothing wrong.
  • Nothing new to add just to repeat that you are a great mom.

YesRobyn, you're a great mommy, try not to feel guilty.  Sending e-hugs your way.  Things will work out!

  • I am very glad he is growing big and strong. As everyone has said please don't beat yourself up with the not so good stuff, it seems all v. treatable and he will be 100% in no time! hugs
  • I don't know, Maddie hardly ever does "tummy time"... She hates it - which is why she rolled back to front first, she was hardly ever on her tummy to roll over.... and she didn't get a flathead. I am not sure I buy into the Tummy time thing entirely. I can't imagine that 20 minutes less pressure on the back of the head would do that much -  but then, I am not a doctor. Still, I am not seeing it - and I didn't do anything special with my older ones either as far as designated tummy time. Their heads are not flat either. I can see how extensive time on his back could do it, but I can't imagine that you aren't holding the little guy as much as possible ;o) - or perhaps it would happen to some babies regardless.. Just a thought. You shouldn't feel bad.

  • I wouldn't worry too much Robyn, and don't feel guilty. He's still a little guy. I really don't think not enough tummy time would cause flattening of the head. Babies sleep a lot at his age, sometimes I think it can't be prevented.

I still haven't taken Fiona for her two month shots yet. I made a late appt...and I'm not looking forward to it.

  • A tip, my DS hated tummy time and my pedi said that when you hold your baby and he lifts his head, that counts as tummy time as well.  This made sense because they are using the same muscles.  :)
  • He is growing really well!  That is great!  The other issues all seems to be minor and easily treatable, so just keep on this therapy and he will be fine.

I understand the guilt - I am going to tell you not to even think like that even though I would totally feel like it was somehow my fault!

    Hang in there! Hugs.
