Be honest: Aiden James?

Dh and I cannot agree on a name. The only one thus far we agree on is Aiden James. What do you think?

Re: Be honest: Aiden James?

  • Toooooooo popular. I know about 65468238317 of them that go to my church.

  • I like the name but it's too popular for me.

  • Aiden, Jayden, Brayden, Caeden, Hayden
  • Honestly, the name itself is not so bad. It still would be a no go for me though because of the plethora of -adens.
  • To me, it is just not a strong name but the only that we can somewhat agree on. I think that choosing a name has been the hardest part of this pregnancy.
  • I really like the name Aiden, and I think it sounds nice with James.  It has just been a little too popular for me lately.  My husband liked it when I was pg last time, but doesn't like it any more.

If you really like it though, use it!  I still kept it in my namelist and it is about 50/50.

  • Never been a fan of Aiden. I do like James.
  • it's okay, but it's nothing special.

    it flows well.

  • Love James. Liked Aiden until it became too popular. I think this name and all of it's variations (Hayden,Braden,Jayden, Kaden..blah blah) are way over done and this trend needs to end!! Just being honest!! Have you checked out nameberry.com?? They have a ton of names and name lists that can be quite helpful...good luck :)
  • It's fine if you're not worried about popularity.

I do prefer the traditional Aidan spelling.

  • sick of aiden
  • I think Aiden is a classic name that has become so popular that it spawned lots of spin-offs. The spin-offs are the ones I don't like (Caden, Jayden, Brayden). If you don't mind popularity, I think it is a nice name.

The combo Aiden James sounds nice, but Britney Spears named her son Jayden James, so that's who I think of.

  • I love the name Aidan.  It was the first of all the -aidan names that started!  I heard it way before a thought of having children and I loved it from then!  My first is Aidan and it suits him.  Is it popular?  Yes.  However, he is the only Aidan in his kindergarten class!!!!!  Aidan is classic, where I find the Brayden, Caiden, Jayden names are not.  Just my personal opinion!  I also hate the fact that people say it is trendy!!  No, no it's been around for a while just popularity as increased.  Thats like saying Jessica in the 80s was trendy!
  • I like it alot but to be honest, wouldn't use Aiden right now b/c it's too popular.  But, that's just us
  • UGH. ?No. ?It's gotten to the point that I roll my eyes whenever I hear of another addition to the Aiden/Kaden/Jaden/Brayden trend. ?Seriously, people, think outside the box.

And LOL about the "Aiden isn't trendy!" comment above. ?For real? ?Yes, it's pretty much the definition of trendy: faddish, latest trend, in current style. ?Blech.

I like Aiden but I know at least 2 kids with each of the names above... Poor kids won't know who the teacher is calling on since they all rhyme...

  • Please, for the love of pete, if you use it, spell it correctly, it's Aidan.

  • It's not horrible, just horribly popular. I am so sick of Aiden, Brayden, Jaden, Caden and anything else that rhymes with those. Then again if you like the idea of him having an easy to pronounce name that is popular then go for it.
  • I think it's a great name.  It's number 16 in popularity if spelled Aiden and number 59 if spelled Aidan. Personally, I've never met an Aiden or Aidan and i know alot of little kids.

First point - I don't think that it's scarring or damaging in any way to have a moderately popular name.  I have no idea why people make such a big deal about popularity.  Maybe names are popular because they're good?  That could be why certain names stay in the top ten, twenty or hundred for decades or longer.

Second point - number 16 is not that popular.  If there's 15 boys on average in the class, and if the top five names live up to everyone's fears and are 'one of five' in the class, then by the time you get to name 16 you don't have much to worry about.

I don't think the average person OFF of the naming boards will realize that it is popular.  Ask your dad or aunt what they think :-)

My cousin selected Aidan for her son and everyone ripped on her for picking an off the wall and strange name... so she switched to Luke (number 43).

  • I like it. Honestly, about half of the names posted on this board are "popular" names. And this one I actually like. Its not on my list or anything, but if you like it - use it. I don't know any children named Aiden.
