So constipated need help

So in the last 12 hours I have had 12 prunes and nothing! I try to drink water but that unfortunately makes me sick. I normally LOVE water but I try to drink it and I get sick to my stomach.

 I need help, it's been days!!!!

  • Colace, miralax, milk of magnesia,  enema.  In that order of desperation.

  • Home Remedies Hope they Help!

    a) Drink some warm milk before you go to bed.

    b) If you are experiencing chronic constipation then add two spoons of castor oil in the warm milk and drink it. Do this probably on an off day.

    c) As soon as you get up drink 6-8 glasses of warm water. It is said to be a grandmother?s tip on good health. It moves the bowels and leads to normal stools.

    d) Take a lemon or two to work and squeeze its juice in warm water and keep sipping on it. Do not add sugar or salt.

    e) Tripala Churna, Balkadoo, and other ayurvedic medicines clean your bowels and are available at the ayurvedic store.

    f) Besides these home remedies you have to alter your lifestyle too. Sleep for a minimum of 8 hours. Eat plenty of fruits. Only properly cooked vegetables should be consumed.

    g) Eat only 3 times or a maximum of 4 times a day. Eat only when hungry and take food from home to office or an outing.

    h) While cooking use asafoetida, cumin powder, turmeric powder and coriander which make the food easily digestible.

    i) Give up non-veg, deep fried, dried fruits, cabbage, cauliflower and a few pulses like dal for some time as they lead to gas and toxins.

    j) In one meal consume a common family of food. Like do not mix pulses, cereals, vegetables all at one time. Spread them out in different meals.

    I concur.  I might bump MOM ahead of Miralax, but that's just my personal preference.  And yes, I am that intimately familiar with laxatives unfortunately.

  • Colace, its stool softener and safe during preganacy. I personally sensitive to really sweet stuff like real icing, it makes me go fast.

    agreed except for the enema.  A lot of docs don't want you to use an enema b/c it can cause contractions.

  • Try all of the above tips and while you are waiting for them to work, read Jenny McCarthy's book "Belly Laughs" - the chapter on constipation is pretty hilarious (and scary!).

    That was the first pg book I read.  Ha, it does feel like passing Stone Hedge sometimes!

  • Do yourself a favor and pop a couple of Colace before bedtime.  It will have you nice and clean by tomorrow night! 
  • Constipation was the worst symptom I had in my first several weeks!  Colace has been known to work...along with FIBER!  My husband made chili one night (with lots of different types of beans).  That definitely relieved my bloating and constipation! :)  GOOD LUCK and know that it will pass soon!
  • Colace is allowed. I'm going to get some of that tonight.

    As for the lack of water - that's not good even without constipation issues. Try drinking water with lemon in it. That helps me drink when I'm not feeling well. Some mild herbal teas are also a good way to get more water - ginger and mint are both good and help nausea too.

    Someone mentioned castor oil - check with your doc before trying that - mine said not to take that.
