Just curious. DS has been a little low on iron in the diet lately, not for lack of trying. But, now his bruises are taking a little longer to heal and his head banging from tantrums has given him a nice bruise on the forehead with only a couple bangs.... :-( I'm thinking about supplementing him after talking to his pedi again but am hoping I can get him to eat a bit more that has iron in it naturally. We'll see if the burritos go over well tonight for an indication. Also, can you get them in drops?
Re: Do you give iron supplements?
Well, I have an unopened bottle if you're interested. We're not going to use it. I understand the additive concern though!
Woo hoo! We're having sweet potato burritos for dinner tonight. Yum!
Thanks! I'm trying to limit the additives and other stuff where I can right now though.
Did his pedi want to test his iron levels? It is better to get it in his diet vs a supplement (and avoid calcium when you giving him his iron-rich foods, like the PP said- it inhibits iron absorption.)
I work in an iron deficency lab and I would get his tested and then get him on a supplement if needed. You don't want your little boy to have low iron and it seems like you are concerned about it.
