So.... we're packing up & getting ourselves ready. I can't believe I'm moving in less than a month. It's insane how quickly things have moved. First we were were gonna stay in NY and then POOF we're moving.
It seems by where we're going to be there is story time at the library and a music class in shohola. Other than that I can't find squat.
There's nothing on meetup.com either except for one thing in dingmans ferry. Which isn't to far, but I'm looking for something I can attend regularly.
So here are my ?'s. What do you do with your lo's during the winter months? Is there anyone near pike county that's interested in starting a meet up group? I'm going to start one on meetup.com when I get out there, but I was wondering if anyone was interested in setting up a weekly, bi-weekly play date.
Let me know. Again... I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone here.
Any advice for me for when I get out there? Except of course to drive nicer......
Re: Good morning gals I have some ?'s for ya
I haven't given this a whole lot of thought yet, since my LO won't be able to do much this winter but here are some things I've thought of. We have a kids gym nearby, there is also a community center that offers swim classes and other classes. I'm not sure how far you will be from Hershey but they always have activites at the park and the giant center and stuff. A friend of mine has told me that one of the local malls also has an indoor play area for kids. I'm not real familiar with the area you are moving to but you are probably going to have to check out the area once you get here and see what you can find. But I would definitely check for the types of places that I mentioned. Oh and I noticed that in my township's newsletter last week that they listed a local MOM's group that I didn't know we even had (and I've lived in this township for 4+ years)so you may want to check that out as well.
I'm sure you'll find some stuff once you get settled in!
I don't have any information about your area, in fact I have never heard of Milford unless it's the one in Delaware! However, you could search to see if there are any Gymborees, My Gyms, Little Gyms or similar in your area. In addition, some malls have indoor play areas. If you search for a MOMS Club, there seem to be a lot of them and you might be able to find an active one in your area.
And when you get to that story time or music class, you can ask other moms what they do. Or if it seems like you and the mom (and the kids too of course) might get along, ask if they want to get together. It's a little bit like dating, but it works. I made a great new friend through our sons' swim classes. She mentioned she stayed home with him, I stay home 2 days a week, so we exchanged numbers and we've gotten together a few times.
And in your new neighborhood, look around for tell-tale signs. A Little Tikes slide in the yard, a swing in a tree, etc., Go up and ring the doorbell and introduce yourself. Or just go for lots of walks around the neighborhood and wait for people to be outside if you don't want to ring the doorbell. And befriend the people who walk dogs in the neighborhood. They'll tell you where the kids are and how cool the parents are! The dogwalkers know everybody!!!
