Today's OB appointment ramblings.....feel free to ignore....

Almost every night that I work, I talk to my parents on my phone during my 45 minute drive home.....(they're in CA.) We're close.  I tell them just about everything.  However, we haven't told them about this pregnancy yet (soon, very soon.)  So, this is something I wanted to talk about today, but couldn't, without ruining the cute surprise way we're going to tell them.

This morning, DH and I went to my 3rd OB appoint. since BFP.  We sat in the waiting room while I filled out family history paperwork and DH bounced an antsy K on his lap.  A few other women were also in the waiting room, smiliing, making faces at K and complimenting him......there was also one man.  Maybe my age?  He just sat there burning holes in the carpet with a stare that told us he was "somewhere else."

Each time the door that led to the exam rooms/dr. offices would open, we'd sit up taller, both feet would hit the ground and all of our eyes would automatically be pulled upward in anticipation..."Is it my turn?  Who's coming out?  A new mom?  A pharma rep?" and unlesss your name was called, disappointment was inevitably followed by slumped, relaxed, shoulders falling back into our chairs

About the 3rd time the door opened.  A very somber 20-30 something  woman peered out into the waiting room.  She was beautiful, despite the bags under her swollen red eyes, uncombed hair, and wrinkled t-shirt and sweat pants.  Slowly, she sought out and made eye-contact with the lone gentleman in the waiting room.  She nodded her head and he shook his as he stood and followed her back to the offices....the heavy door slowly closed behind them.

I don't know if anyone else noticed besides DH and me.  But we almost immediately, looked at each other and hugged K in between us.

Meanwhile, we had a great appointment (except for the whole starting out 8 lbs heavier than when I started my last pregnancy LOL).  It was as I had expected.  My Dr. is going to keep an eye on the size of the baby throughout my pregnancy.  He doesn't believe that my body is able to vaj deliver a baby larger than DS (he was only 6lbs 15oz., 19 3/4 " long) without permanent damage (as per the experience and massive tearing with K).  He wont deliver the baby early, nor will he force a C-section unless necessary.  Nothing I didn't already know.  I trust him.  We're pretty much "playing it by ear."

As we left the exam room and were led to the "finance/insurance lady's" office - UGH!.  Anyway, as we were in the hallway, 2 of the nurses who we came to know with our 1st pregnancy, followed us and were loudly raving about how cute K is and Congratulating us on expecting again and how excited they were.

I glance at Terry's desk (appointment-making lady).....the couple from earlier is there, checking out.  The man looks like a deer caught in headlights (truly, I've seen it, but that's a story for another day), the lady, obviously just got through bawling, seemed to be drowning in devastation.

What horrible timing.    I pray that they are able to receive and enjoy the blessings that I have in my life - the ones God reminded me of today.

  • Thanks for sharing :o)  I enjoy your ramblings, how sad for that couple and how awful for you with K's delivery!  I didn't know it was bad for you, ouch!

  • DH and I were once that other couple. October 27th is 2 year anniversary of us being that couple.

I appreciate your thoughtfulness regarding their feeling. I hope they are blessed soon.

  • I'm sorry Miss Sallie....I truly can't imagine.
  • Glad your appointment went well, and I can't wait to hear how you tell your parents!

On another note, thanks for sharing the story of the other couple. We did not have any problems ttc, but I know we were incredibly lucky. I also hope that couple is blessed very soon.
