Getting a mother's helper for an hour/day

I seriously seriously SERIOUSLY hate the hour from 4-5pm.

It is impossible. I have a standing conference call for work each day (30 min), i am trying to cook dinner AND get dressed for class, get my school bag together all at the same time while trying to occupy DD. I leave for class as soon as DH gets in from work- they eat together and i eat at class.

It is the ONLY time each day where i feel like a bad worker, bad student, AND a bad mommy all at once. I just cannot juggle as many balls during that hour. Rest of the day is fine.

I talked to a local neighbor high school student about coming over after school for an hour each day and he said no problem. It isn't fair to DD that i am pulled in six directions.

I hate feeling like i can't do it all- but i am just accepting this help. I need to.

  • No need to feel bad about getting some help at all!  Honestly,I think that with all you have going on it's amazing that it is only one hour a day that you feel at your breaking point.  That says a lot about what a great woman you really are in all of those areas and more!

I hope things get easier because of this decision.  And I'm sure DD will love having him over to play with for a little bit!

  • Sounds like a great idea!!  You probably will be more productive in class too because you won't be all stressed out from trying to do it all.
  • Don't feel guilty about needing help for one hour a day... It sounds like you are just pulled too many ways at one time.  I think as SAHMs we feel bad asking for help because SAH is our job but I'm just learning that its okay to have help.  (I'm a total newbie, but still)

  • Dude, I need a part time nanny. One hour per day isn't going to cut it for me! LOL!

I wouldn't feel guilty if I were you.

Thanks! I love my kids, but they are very tiring right now since they are still so young. I just don't want to be around when I have 3 teenagers in the house! LOL!

  • Ok, you should NOT feel guilty about this -- at all.  I think it is truly amazing that you WAH, take care of Gisele and are a full time student.  I really mean that.  So if you can get a little help to make your life easier, do it!
  • Good for you! If we had it in the budget I would do the same thing, and I don't have nearly as much on my plate as you do right now.

Besides, you're helping out the high school kid with a job too.

  • GOOD.FOR.YOU!  Like you said, you can't juggle sixteen things all day long.  I'm sure having one less thing on your mind will make a huge difference!  I hope it works out with the high schooler.

  • UGH - I too hate the Witching Hour.  I think it's awesome you're getting a Mother's Helper during that time.  I bet it will make all the difference.
