Help me out - I'm having a hard time w/ solids & reducing bottles

DD is on 2-3 solids meals a day, but she also still take 30ish oz of formula.  She take 5 6 oz bottles a day normally - one early morning, 3 during the day at daycare and another before bed.  Should I eliminate a bottle or increase the amount in each one?  I tried that before and she just ended up eating the same amount.

  • I don't think so.  I would keep giving her bottles and letting her tell you when she is ready for more solids.

  • I think that you are totally fine.  I wouldn't eliminate the bottle.  She still wants to take them, and they have so many important nutrients.

  • I was just gonna ask this. Ds takes 30-35 oz a day. When I told pedi this he said I needed to start limiting it. Its been so hard because ds loves his bottles. He also loves solids too so I'm gonna try to give him more of that.
  • maybe try eliminating one bottle and giving the milk in a sippy instead.

  • At DD's 9 month appointment the pediatrician I asked how much was appropriate, since I nurse and dd's bottles at daycare are less than they used to be. She said she likes to see them drinking between 18-30 oz a day. So I think you are fine.

  • Sorry - just a little more. If it was me, I would try to reduce the # of bottles though - 4 bottes instead of 5. And I might see about offering a cup since a lot of kids don't want milk in a cup when you try to wean from the bottle.
  • our pedi also said up to 32 oz was fine, so as long as your LO is gaining at a good rate, I'd say you are fine!  We recently went from 5 6oz bottles a day to 4 when we introduced more table foods.
