Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Question from a 2nd tri-er

I am having my baby shower in a few weeks and am trying to really just give my registry a once over now that the invites are out. I was wondering now that you all have your beautiful babies, was there anything you didn't put on your registry that you wish you had or is there anything that you now couldn't live with out? Thanks for your recs!

  • Lots and lots of undershirts, sleepers, receiving blankets, and wash clothes!!
  • i had put a boppy on my registry but i ended up returning it for a mybrestfriend which works better for me.

i put the avent steam sterilizer which was kind of a waste, i would have been better off with the microwave sterilzer.  Also, dont put clothes because so many other people will buy you clothes thats not on your registry.

  • Boppy, sleep sacks and feetie onesies!

My munchkin also really loves his play gym mat and his vibrating bouncy chair but all babies are different!  Some really love swings and slings.

  • pack n play

    itzbeen timer

    swaddlemes

    dr brown bottles

    diapers

    wipes

  • MotherLove nipple cream--bought it at my hosp., so not sure where to buy otherwise...

    Boppy

Vaseline...we had our boy circed, and his chin is a little irritated by his pacis but the vaseline seems to be helping

    Good thick pads

A space heater for his room (I see you live in the midwest like us)...it's been great being able to keep his room toasty warm without having to hot box the whole house since it's pretty much already winter outside!

  • lots more SwaddleMe's by Kiddopatomus.

We only have three and we have to wash them several times a week because he spits up on them.

  • swaddle me blankets by kiddopotamus.

  • More burp cloths.

    Swaddle Me.

  • Halo sleep sacks. We planned to swaddle but DD had other plans

  • Miracle Blanket (not at BRU, but you can buy on Amazon).  Seriously the best thing ever.  Those Swaddle Me blankets stink -- DD can get out of them in minutes flat.

Cheap bouncy seat.  I got one that was higher than most and just vibrated, didn't actually bounce.  Get one with a wire frame that really bounces.  DD hates her swing because she still has a strong startle reflex, so her hands fly up and she gets scared.  With the bouncy seat, the arms flying up just makes the seat bounce, so she stays happy.

Some sort of bassinet.  We have an arms reach cosleeper set up as a bassinet (not attached to the bed).  People have different opinions, but I really like her being in our room.

Some sort of baby carrier.  We have a Baby Bjorn, a Hot Sling, and I'm getting a Baby Hawk (mei tai).  I hate the Bjorn, love the sling, and can't wait to get the Baby Hawk.

A bunch of the Gerber prefold cloth diapers to use as burp cloths.

Boppy.  I have a My Brest Friend which I think is actually better, but I never use it because you have to strap it on.  And the logistics of setting a screaming, hungry baby down in a safe place, strapping on the MBF, then picking the baby up with this thing attached to you were just too much.

For later -- one of those activity mat things.  It's a brightly colored mat with two arches over it with toys hanging from them.  DD has a Baby Einstein one with a star that lights up and plays music.  She LOVES that thing.  She could watch it for up to an hour, if I'd let her.  Which is a long darn time for a 2 month old.  (We started using this around 7 weeks.)

Also -- don't buy a lot of diapers.  Some will fit your kid, some won't.  There's no way to know until he/she is here, and returning them would be a huge pain.
