My favorite girl name for the last 10ish years has been Amelia (ever since the Princess Diaries... hehe). It is the name we will use and would have been Hayden's name if he was a girl. Now that movie about Amelia Earhart is coming out and I am worried that the name is going to become popular. I hate that! DH chose Hayden's name 20 years ago from the TV show Coach (Hayden Fox) and it didnt become popular until the last few years and for that reason I wouldnt have used it but DH was determined. Why does this happen? I just want a slightly unusual but classic name. I hate doing things the same way as everyone else!!! UGH!
Re: Fave name is now a movie.
I could have wrote this post myself. 10 years ago most the names I liked were not even on the radar (Chloe was one) now Chloe is in the top 10. There are other examples, I likes Jayden before anyone knew the name existed....
Since it took me so long to get pregnant I feel that everyone caught up and passed me. Since we decided to name our son Dillon (a name I thought was going to move down in popularity), I have noticed a TON of Dylan's on TV shows and movies.
I guess you can't win!
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

Amelia was on my list of names too, but DH didn't like it.
But what made me reply: Coach was really on TV 20 years ago? Wow. I feel old!!
Yeah, it started in 1989!!!! It went until 1997 though and those are probably the episodes I remember more.

Yep, my favorite girl name FOREVER ago (think when I was about 5) and my DH was/is completely on board has been OLIVIA. Um, where has that gone? Yep, it's the #6 name out there, and it is #2 in my state!!!!!!!! We are actually thinking to use a different name now just because it's too crazy out there with Olivia's.
I will say though, speaking from a Jennifer in 1980 (#1 name), I haven't been bombarded with tons of other Jennifer's in my life, and I actually like my name. This is the only thing that makes me feel better about still using Olivia. So, you should be okay with Amelia.....:)
I am a Jennifer too. Name poularity is a huge issue with me. LOL. I *thought* I had picked a less popular name for my LO. Wellll low and behold the name is splashed all over the Pottery Barn kids catalog. Argh. It is #44 on last years list. I think I can live with that but how popular it will become is anyones guess.
As a Jennifer from the beginning of that popularity wave, I am adamant about not picking popular names. DS's first name is my maiden name and seems to be rising in popularity, ARGH!! DH's favourite girl name is Madison, and he doesn't get why I won't consider the name if we ever have a girl. Go with the name you really love, hopefully there won't be 4 other little ones in her kindergarten class with the same name.
yeah, I have been in love with Emilia (even before I met Jody!) and noticed the popularity increasing... Along with Camryn and Harper! Sigh.
But I named Ethan back in the 80s when watching thirtysomething and I didn't deviate, I love it enough to deal with the #6 name in our county!
