Those pg w/ #2 or have already had #2

If you had a preemie with #1 and are currently pregnant with #2 or have already had #2 did you mentally prepare yourself to deliver #2 prematurely? or did you just plan on having a full term baby and roll with whatever happened?

I'm not PG yet, but in the past year I decided there were 3 stages that I needed to reach before I was "ready" to do this again. 1 - I needed to be ready to have another child. 2 - I needed to be ready to be PG again. 3 - I needed to be prepared to have another preemie. My chances of having the same thing happen (they think) is "only" 10%, but that is ten times more than my chances were with the first pregnancy. It's kind of a crap shoot and honestly I think that I need to be prepared for the possibility of bed rest and an early delivery again.

Honestly, I knew my chances were higher, but didn't really think about it until a doctor told me my chances of delivering prematurely were 50-75%.  I've since talked to other doctors and they disagree; apparently my type of premature delivery (water breaking) is normally due to a defect in the uterine wall and unlikely to occur again.  BUT, that got me thinking and I've since been mentally preparing myself for another preemie.

I was mentally prepared for another preemie. I was very blessed to have no complications this time and had a full term baby.

So I Never thought I would get pregnant this soon...Its a good thing I am not a accountant..I messed up my calender...OOPS..I am prepared to have another Preemie but I feel that I will not...I had IUGR and there isn't a very high chance that i will have another preemie...OR maybe that I heard it wrong from the doctors....I am praying for 38 weeks....

I planned on having #2 full term.  I was watched more closely and was more careful with my activity.  I also got the 17P injections the 2nd time around.  It worked because DS came at 37 weeks.

We're TTC #2. To prepare ourselves, I'm applying (early!!) for mat leave benefits so I won't have the stress of that while my LO is possibly in the NICU. I'm also going to have everything ready at home, crib, double stroller, etc. Also, I'm going to have dinners frozen in the freezer. And a hospital bag packed and ready to go in the trunk. And a plan for my mom to watch our first LO. By having all the physical preparations done, I prepare myself mentally. The stress of not having the physical things done would probably weigh on me a lot. Also I'm going to try do to have all the little things around the house that I keep meaning to do, paperwork and that too, done early in the pregnancy so that if I do end up on bedrest, there won't be all these little things hanging over me. Now that I've got all that figured out, just need to get PG! ;)

At first I tried to mentally prepare myself for another preemie... then I decided to be optimistic, and have been preparing for a full term baby, and thinking about things in terms that I don't have to have anything ready until I am full term.  But this past week, I have been feeling like I will have another preemie, so I am back to mentally preparing for that.  I figure, now, either way, I have been mentally preparing!

#2 was not a planned baby. I was still not over my experience with my DS. I was fully prepared to have a preemie. I was hoping that it was not going to happen. I have been on Progesterone shots since week 16. I have now passed the day gestational that I had my DS. I am now starting to relax knowing that my baby will hopefully be in better shape then my DS.

We are hoping to make it to full term but we can't help but think that it could be earlier. My c-section is scheduled for 12-21 and so we say he will be here on or before the 21st, hopfully he will wait until Dec.

For us it has been almost impossible to not think about the possiblity of an early arrival. Especially as I am fast approaching the mark where DS1 was born. I have had a few issues with this pregnancy but nothing more than directions to take it easy from the doctor.

I do feel more prepared this time, mentally, for the thought of a preemie. Where as last time it was such a shock and I was a basket case.

I am pg with #2 and had baby #1 at 32 weeks due to severe iugr. it just came on really quickly without any warning at all. I am mentally prepared for nicu all over again. although i hope and pray i go full term. i am now seeing a high risk specialist as my regualr ob and he is monitoring me very closely. i think he has totally put me at ease and i am thankful for that. he seems to think my first delivery was a fluke thing and this one will be okay.

    good luck
