1st Trimester

When would you call a doctor?

Now let me say I am NOT freaking out just curious.  I have been spotting since last night.  Mostly brown, and VERY minimal.  I'm guessing it's because I overworked myself Sunday and Monday.  I did a lot of running around and lifting on very little sleep and I think I just pushed myself too hard.  With that said I have only minor cramping, I'm guessing it's the usual gas.  And there has been NO red or pink blood.

When would you call the doctor?  If it turns red or pink? If I get intense cramping?

Unfortunately, I'm one of those people that doesn't call the doc for anything so I'm just wondering what I should watch for.

Re: When would you call a doctor?

  • My doctor told me to come in immediately if I had red bleeding and/or severe cramping.  I think a little spotting is ok, as long as you don't need to use a pad for it and there are no clots.

  • i'd call if you get intense cramping, blood flow increases and is red.

    Spotting is totally normal.

  • They may not want to see you, but I think any spotting should be noted on your chart.

    I agree with this post.

  • I've had brown spotting for the past week or so. I've only had red twice. The first was right around when my pd would have been due and the second was this morning but I had a transvaginal ultrasound yesterday. I called the Dr. when I first noticed the brown spotting and they had me come in for bloodwork to check my levels. Everything was fine and they said some women have spotting during pregnancy and its normal. My suggestion is to call your Dr. and atleast tell them whats going on. Its better to play it safe!

  • I would definitely call your doctor. They need to know. You may get an u/s out of it too. :-)

  • I'd call now, just to be sure. Spotting is normal for some women, but its not something you should take for granted is normal for you.

  • I would call. I had negative experience with 'light & brown' spotting. Your dr needs to be aware of any changes such as this. I wouldn't worry, but I wouldn't ignore it.
