I hate to open up a can of worms, but I wanted to get your opinions. I am used to getting my hair highlighted every 6 weeks. It's been like 10 weeks and I have mega roots. Not that it isn't worth it to give up a few things for a healthy baby, but wanted to see if anyone else had recently gotten a dye job. Also, going on a cruise in 2 weeks and my whole body is broken out and paler than pale. What about Mystic tan? Dove Energy Glow lotion? I've been reading online for the past hour. What do you ladies think from experience/ob suggestions?
Re: Mystic Tans and Hair Dye
A few weeks ago, I went and had an airbrush tan done. On the info sheet I had to fill out, it asked if I was pregnant....and I put 'maybe'! I was in the 2WW at the time and really didnt know. She didnt question it or say anything about it. I go back on Friday for a wedding I am on in Saturday.
Sorry I dont dye my hair so I dont know much about that!

Highlighting is supposed to be safe since the dye doesn't touch your scalp. Even with that, most OBs prefer for you to wait until the 2nd tri.
I wouldn't suggesting Mystic Tan. It's probably safe but the fumes would totally freak me out.
Regarding your root issue (so to speak): I do believe that it's safe(r) to get highlights than to go for a full dye job. The fact that the stylist paints it on, and is therefore not getting the dye onto the scalp as she would were she rubbing an all-over color in means that as far as hair beautification goes: this would be the better way to go.
Now, as far as a Mystic Tan or self-tanning lotion: I'd call your doctor. My instincts tell me that Mystic Tan should be a no-go, but maybe you might be cool with a self-tanning Jergens, or something? I'd call your doctor.
coloring your hair is completely safe. the concerns were way back, like in the 60's or 70's, when the chemicals in the dye were questionable. they are safe now.
my hair stylist has had two perfectly healthy kids and uses hair dye all day long and touches teh dye frequently.
as for the tan......anything getting absorbed into the skin is a concern (to me). i would avoid it if possible.
Aww love your pug too!
I am usually get my hair foiled, and my sister is my hairstylist so I am going to try to go when no ones there to avoid fumes. Guess I will wait at least a few more weeks until the end of my first trim. and then I am going for it.
Highlights are supposed to be fine. Because of the foil/painting on process, very little should touch your scalp. Also, I was told before that bleach is safer than dye, but I don't know how accurate it is.
I would not risk self-tanner during pregnancy, especially during 1st trimester. I would worry about all of those chemicals soaking into my skin and bloodstream and making their way to the baby. Pale, broken out skin sucks, but I don't think it's worth the risk.
My OB said highlighting is fine since it doesn't touch the scalp. Hair dye not until the 2nd trimester. Don't know about the tanning though.
