What can I use instead of evaporated milk?

My recipe calls for evaporated milk and I don't have any. I already put everything together. Any substitute?

  • light cream, half and half, powdered milk with only mixing about 40% of the amount of water in, buttermilk, or make your own?  reduce the milk in a sauce pan on the stove - keep it below the boiling point and make sure it doesn't scorch on the bottom...may take a while, but you can do it.

Thanks. I am not that fancy to make my own. I will just add a little whole milk, it is pretty thick on it's own.
