Allergic reaction to progesterone shots

Did any one else ever break out on their backside due to the progesterone shots (ones in Oil). My tush has big red marks all over it at the injection site, it is also VERY itchy...and black and blue. This didn't happen during my first round of IVF..COuld it also be due to the supositories of P4 and the shots?

HAs this happened to anyone else?? Can you get an allergic reaction??

Re: Allergic reaction to progesterone shots

  • You can get a reaction to the oil.  Can you have them switch to a different oil?  I did cottonseed oil and didn't have a problem (I was worried b/c I'm allergic to everything under the sun.)

I know armywife had a crazy reaction.

  • Yep, it hit me about 5 weeks into the shots and I had to finish out the last 4 weeks doing suppositories instead. Call your doctor, mine said that once you start to have an allergic reaction, you may not be getting the full effect of the dose, so its better to switch to a different delivery method.

  • I was allergic to the sesame oil and developed a very itchy rash, they switched me to PIO in olive oil and it's much better.

  • I did this time too but I am on endometrin and PIO.  I didn't get the rash thing and itching until last week and I"ve been on the PIO for about a month before that.  Its a pain for sure!

That's what I have been on now. Edometrian AM and PM andPIO in the AM. The itching started last week..and it is terrible..I just called my RE hopefully they will get back to me soon!

    Thanks

  • This happened to me too.  I was planning to "brave" thru the shots b/c I thought that they were better than teh suppositories, but my nurse saw the rash and went ballistic.  She said that rashes - particularly on your butt - can easily get infected and the infection can cause real harm.  I've been using the suppositories ever since, and my levels have been just fine.
