Infertility

Estrogen & micro Lupon protocol?

Anyone do this?  The nurse said it takes 2 months?  This month I have to do the ovulation kit and after I get my period they will start me on the estrogen/micro Lupron and then the Gonal F and Menopur.

I've done IVF 3 times and never did anything like this.  They said it's more aggressive since I don't respond to the meds well but I'm just wondering if anyone has insight into this protocol and tell me what it's like, do you get really wacky because of the estrogen? Is it more aggressive?

Thanks!

Re: Estrogen & micro Lupon protocol?

  • What are the doses? For this IVF I did Lupron for a shorter time before beginning stims and with stims I am using estrogen.

My doses are: Lupron 10 units, Estrace - 2 - 2mg pills a day, plus stims and growth hormone.

ETA: I don't think it's the same, I am using regular Lupron, not Micro.....

  • JillAly - what is considered a poor responder?  I'm just curious because I think I'm a poor responder too.  IVF #1 was cancelled at ET because my two fertilized embies didn't make it.  I did some research online and looks like estrogen priming protocols are good for people who are poor responders.  I have my WTF appointment today and will ask my RE about that protocol.

  • I was told that anything below 3 follies is considered a poor responder.  My RE won't even do a retrieval if there are less than 3 follies and even wants 4 follies.  I've read that several clinics across the country have the same standard.

On my last cancelled IVF, I had 2 follies.  In the prior 2 IVF's when I even made enough to do IVF, I only had 4 and 6 eggs.

Of course, it's not only about the number of eggs retrieved, but the number of mature eggs and the number that fertilize and grow- but the more they get, the better the odds are.

I just keep the hope because I know it's not impossible.  Of my 4 eggs they got on my 2nd IVF, 3 fertilized and grew and I got pregnant with ds so it can work with low numbers.  It's just an odds thing with the doctors and they prefer the higher numbers.
