question about taking Tamiflu??

There are multiple people in my office that are out with the flu, all that I had close contact with a day or 2 before they got sick.  So obviously, I have been exposed multiple times.  Should I let my OB made aware of this and is this what you take the Tamiflu for?  I'm starting to feel yucky myself and I want to get in taken care of before it becomes any worse.  Have any of you taken Tamiflu after being exposed?

Re: question about taking Tamiflu??

  • I took it, but only after actually getting the flu. Apparently I was exposed to it and didn't even know it!

I'd def. let your doctor know that you've been exposed, then they can go from there whether or not to give you the Tamiflu. I wasn't given it until I was showing all the signs of the flu. I didn't have a fever at first, but as soon as the fever hit, they called in the prescription.

  • ?I would tell your Dr and see what they say to do. They might just want you to wait for any symptoms to show up before you do anything. ?Hope you don't get it!?
  • At my last appointment (this past Friday), my OB said the standard protocol now is prophylactic treatment if you are exposed - 10 days on Tamiflu. If you are already feeling sick, call your OB ASAP- you need to take the Tamiflu within 48 hours of symptoms for it to be effective. She said the treatment dosage is taken for 5 days. Feel better! :)

  • I was exposed. Well, these days anywhere you go you can be exposed! :) But, I teach first grade and had 8 out in one week with the FLU!! I was 26 weeks at the time, and was given Tamiflu and took the preventative course, or 1 pill a day for 10 days. My OB, who is WONDERFUL by the way, said that I can even take it a few more times if I have to! But, every doc is different so let them know! But I would definitely not let it gets out of hand before doing something about it! Prayers that you will stay healthy!!?
  • If it were me, I would wait to see if I started running a fever and then have the Tamiflu called in. I'm a teacher as well and had 7 students out last week with it and so far, I am fine. I would just hate to take medicine if it wasn't necessary...but that's just me.
