What's the obsession with wooden play kitchens? Do they usually hold up better? Is it just related to the uber-crunchy no plastic toys mindset? I know they're sanded and whatnot but I would worry about splinters, especially if they're really rough on it and something breaks.
I'm not in any rush to get DD a play kitchen. I know she's too young still and we have no room for it as it is. I'm just curious.

Re: Play kitchens... wood vs. plastic?
if we doe ver get one then we will probably go wooden as well, but just because it lasts longer. The veggies and accessories will probably get the plastic ones.
I hear the wood ones are kind of boring.
The plastic ones have more realistic features: stoves that sizzle, microwaves, refrigerators and dishwashers that beep, kitchen sinks with hoses, etc.
I think it depends on your kid...my son hates to play with anything that is a toy and not "real"...has to be a real cell phone, loves playing with real pots and pans, etc. So I'm pretty sure we'd just be wasting money on a wood kitchen.
We have a wooden one. I can PIP it if you'd like. I think it has good features. All of the dials turn, the water faucet turns, etc. I really like it and DD seems to too. I think the plastic ones look cheap, and we wanted this to be a long lasting toy. It may be one of the only things we hang onto for future grandkids.
We also only buy wooden food as well.
I was all set to get a nice wooden kitchen that would last forever, yada yada yada.
Then I found a very well maintained Dora Kitchen for 10.00 at a yard sale. Um yea, SOLD. DD loves it.
