ETA: I was posting this because I know a lot of us break these rules and while I could care less I would hate for some of my favorite nesties to get banned.
I think it's ridiculous to say that someone can not post a link to an etsy site in a post...so for that matter can we also no post links to retail stores...or recommendations for products anymore?
How is posting a link to an etsy store any different than a link to a sweater at BR...
From what I see... the rule is this "No soliciting of any kind on the message boards or in
the chat room -- it is neither allowed nor appreciated by the community."
I don't see any details about not being about share recommendations, etc.
If that really is the case, that's too bad. I think we all have gotten a lot of our the recommendations from (and to) people here on the Board.

I obviously think the rules are ridiculous. I'll have my link in my siggy until I get banned or asked to remove it, I suppose.
I personally think biz links are fine, unless your sole purpose for being on the board is for business gain. I don't even reply to posts asking for photographers...so I really don't think a little link should be an issue. and i love Etsy links, I love the sharing of creativity!

I agree, I just read the terms of use and see nothing about links to vendors.
What's REALLY lame is she says that "SHE" can post her blog because it's not just a 'for sale' blog (or whatever she said) - because she writes about other things. How is that any different than mine? I guess I'll have to add even more of my own commentary? Stupid.
Nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it.

Ditto, my site is a blog site. I'll have to throw in a three line post about how brilliant my husband is so that I can skirt the rules.

ditto...I try to stay out of the posts that say "recommend your invitation site" or whatever. Feels lame to say "oooh - pick me pick me pick me". My stuff isn't for everyone - if you want to look at my blog - feel free - if you want to use it for inspiration and make your own - go for it (don't steal it though) - if you want me to make you something...cool. I'll do my best.

I don't really see the point of posting the rules. I have never felt like anyone on here pushes their products on us bumpies. Maybe not all the boards are as luck!
I think it would be impossible to police people linking to stores that are not their own. The NorCal boards have had a long history of giving our own Nesties our business -- years ago there was even a NorCal Nestie business directory for personal businesses and for general recommendations. It was an awesome resource. I think it's absurd that only the etsy vendors get crap all the time. I don't see any difference if I say that I got the cutest little hat at so-and-so's shop on etsy or if I say I got it at BRU. I go way out of my way not to mention my products at all when people ask about babywearing, even though I often respond to those posts on the AP board, and I think that most posters on this forum do the same thing.

Does she work for thenest.com? I'm a little unclear on who handed her that high horse she's riding.
hahahahaha - that's great! Neeeiiighhhhh!
hahaha....she's the board "moderator" ...I (as I'm sure some remember) hate that entire concept. So ridiculous. They tried to give the newlywed board a babysitter once too...that was back when I was asked to remove my photo CREDIT for my wedding photo in my siggy.
But yeah, pretty silly (if you ask me) that her siggy says like Click here for my card making blog... hmm... ?!?!

This.
Ditto. Even with the ETA I don't understand why this is posted to this board. I have a hard time believing that there is somebody out there policing siggys that aren't called out and we've had no reason to call that stuff out here.
And lol Lizz, seriously, her interpretation of the rules?? She must be someone super special.

There's no board moderator here and I don't think anyone has been offended by another member's actions over here. If so, everyone knows how to report someone. I think we're fine.
I'm not really sure why this is even being brought up? Does someone on our board have a problem with nesties also being vendors? I don't think ANY of us push our craft on others. I, for one, find having people with varying expertise to be helpful.

I have to ditto this as well.
I agree that all of our vendors here do a great job of not pushing their business on anyone. AND I for one am more than happy to give my business to a nestie over any other company if I can.
This was the same for theknot.com and thats how projectwedding.com got started. It was a big thing about 4 years ago on theknot message board. Its nuts!

I think it's great she posted this... ignorance of the law is no excuse, etc. It's better to know and disagree than to live in ignorance of the Nest's policies, no matter how ridiculous.
It does not say in the TOU that vendors can not have links in siggys, nor does it say anywhere that you can't link to vendors in the TOU. It simply says no soliciting. To date I have never seen a nor cal nestie actively solicit business on the board. If anything when recos are asked for those who are in the biz decline to post.
And FTR, I don't think anyone who posted in this link was "living in ignorance".

Take a chill pill, ffs. I certainly didn't know that they had weird (and, imo, ridiculous) rules about who could post what sort of links/recommendations.
Also, the first sentence ("ignorance of the law") is a SAYING. I'm not being literal here.

No need for a "chill pill" over here, I was just clearing things up. ie there is no "law" that prohibits the things mentioned.
And I'm familiar with the saying...I guess I just found it a bit self-righteous in this situation.

Wow. Just wow.

My point is that I'd rather have Ariel point this out than get banned because I didn't follow this (stupid on their part) rule! Who wouldn't? (besides the two people I quoted

I think it just comes down to the culture on this particular board. We all know to fly under the radar, and the more things are pointed out & drama started the more exposed we are... we like the way things are, and even if someone is banned it doesn't mean they can't show up 3 days later with another name, and as far as I know no one locally has been banned in the 6 years I've been on the Nest/Bump.
I didn't even know they had hall monitors here until this post! Which makes me O_o to an extent, seriously... this board is so tame I can't imagine such a thing would ever be needed here.

Exactly - we just sort of ignore everything else & enjoy the bubble! As of right now we don't have a moderator, and I'd like to keep it that way. So ixnay on the rule talk
