High-Risk Pregnancy

Anyone have PreE with low b/p but high protein?

I am stuck in the hospital right now because they have no clue what is really wrong with me. At first they thought it was Pre E, but my b/p has been low, between 110/50 - 130/60.

I do however have protein in my urine. In the 1000's at this point. My liver function b/w is fine. BUT there are also traces of blood and crystals in my urine which suggests I may have a kidney stone, although none was seen on u/s...

So I get to see a urologist tomorrow to see if he suggests anything.

Wondering if this happened to anyone else.  The doctors are "baffled" at this point.

A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

Re: Anyone have PreE with low b/p but high protein?

  • i have high protein and extreme swelling but a normal BP. at this point, they did "label" me with preeclampsia, but i am not in the hospital. i've been put on strict bedrest (in an attempt to reduce swelling) and was told if i ever had a headache or get dizzy/see white spots, to go to the hospital immediately. i should add that i only have one kidney, which is probably playing a part in my high protein content.

that said, they are keeping a close eye on me and i actually think i am going to be induced sometime this week. i just had an amnio to check the baby's lung maturity and the results came back great. i am just waiting to hear from my high-risk OB to see what she decides in terms of an induction date.

good luck though. i hope all works out well for you.

  • Do you know how high your protein is? What their concern is that mine is so high so quickly. I am only 29 weeks, so hopefully they can keep the baby in longer.

I have no swelling or other symptoms as well.

  • Are they only taking your BP when you are laying down in your hospital bed? My BP is normal when I am laying down. When I am sitting up or standing it is through the roof!!! A really good nurse figured out to test me in different positions while I was in the hospital and we found this out.
  • I'm in the hospital on bedrest because I was getting pretty high (like 164/104) at my office visit and at home even after resting throughout the weekend.  Then I was in the hospital for monitoring and they got the results from my 24 hr urine collection....over 1900 protein when she said under 300 she isn't concerned about.

I also get fairly good/normal BPs while lying down here with the occasional high one after being up for awhile around the room or after taking a shower.

No they take it with me both sitting up in bed and lying down. It is low no matter what. It was even low when I was not in the hospital and walking like a normal person. It is just the elevated protein at this point having them wave the pre-E flag.

my protein is in the 500's and has been for the past 3 weeks. they told me anything over 300 is cause for concern.

i honestly didn't know it could go up to 1000's
