We had our first call to Poison Control

Uggg, a first I was hoping to avoid.  Saturday night I was getting Cooper ready for his bath and Andrew is playing,in and out of the bathroom with us.  Next thing (it was quick, I didn't even have Cooper undressed yet) I look up and he's across the hall and drinking something small.  I realize it's the infant Tylenol!  He got the cap off and had powered down about a 1/4 of a bottle by the time I got it away from him, thank god it wasn't full to begin with or it would have been worse I'm sure.

I was petrified that I'd have to take him in and get his stomach pumped or god knows what but the poison control said he had way less than the minimum for concern.

I sure wish he hadn't figured out how to get the lids of childproof stuff though :(

Re: We had our first call to Poison Control

  • Oh goodness! Glad to hear he's ok...a friend of mine's daughter did that and they ended up spending an entire night at the ER because they didn't know how much she had drank of Tylenol. I'm glad that wasn't the case for Cooper!!

  • Oh no! How scary! And a good reminder for me -- I am not that careful with those bottles.  DS likes to chew on the nubby part of the cap (the top of the dropper).  :(  I never considered that he'd figure out how to open it.
  • Wow - so scary and I can't believe he can get child proof caps off already! I'm glad he is okay and it's a good reminder for all of us to keep that stuff out of reach - I know I'm not always as good about that as I should be...

  • Oh no! How terrifying! I'm so glad it worked out, and he's okay. I'm impressed though, I can barely get those caps off myself, so he must be pretty smart to have figured it out already. ?Lucky you with a super smart kid Wink ?Maybe I should be hoping Eleanor isn't quite so gifted though! lol??

  • DH likes to tell me how he ate baby aspirin as a toddler.  His mom kept the baby aspirin on a shelf in the kitchen cabinet.  At 2-3 years old he got up there and climbed the shelves in the middle of the night and ate all of the aspirin.  MIL heard him drop the bottle and found him.  She took him to the ER - they made DH drink an entire can of coke and MIL had to take parenting classes.

  • Scary!

Natalie loves to play with the tylenol bottle...I'll have to put an end to that.

  • Ugh, scary! PP is right, these little buggers are so fast! Why do they have such death wishes???
  • Yikes! I'm glad he's ok, but what a scare for momma.

Holy crap the entire bottle, that would be sooo scary.  Luckily since Cooper is teething I had a really good idea of how much was in the bottle to begin with but apparently he could have drank the entire thing (1oz) and still been fine, maybe that's why they don't make them any bigger.
