Pregnant after a Loss

Classes?

What classes are you taking?  How long do they run?

I think we're going to do a childbirth class, so I went to schedule it with the nurse at my practice.  It's a 7 week course on Wednesday nights, which kind of surprised me.  I thought it would be a one day Saturday class or something.  Trying to decide if I should do a BF class or something too.

Re: Classes?

  • I thin the BF class most appeals to me, because I don't know anything about it. I think the  birthing classes will be good but it will be a crapshoot that day anyway :)

  • My childbirth class was 4 weeks long. It was on Sunday nights and it was a 2 hour class. The BF class I took was only one night for 4 hours. One of the sessions in the childbirth class was a tour of the hospital, which was pretty cool.

    Our family is complete!

  • Our hospital offered one day classes or a 5 week session...we chose the one day to get it over with. It was 9-5 and although it was overwhelming getting it all done in one day, I thought it was a good overview. We also did one breastfeeding class which was really helpful. I hadn't heard great things about the classes and almost did not sign up for them, but I'm really glad I did.
  • We just registered for our classes on Friday. We are taking the Birth and Child care class which runs once a week for 2 hours for 6 weeks, the Breastfeeding class, which is a 2.5 hour course and an Infant Safety and CPR course which is another 2.5 hours.
  • Try to take a BF-ing class, if you can.  Also, have the name of a lactation consultant or ask around about possible people to help with BF after birth.  I did both and they were absolutle life savers!!   My DS was a terrible nurser in the beginning (he was tongue-tied and a terrible latcher).  Plus, I was just nervous and unsure of myself

My childbirth classes were with a nurse and they were just ok.  I took a 1 night parenting class on coping with a newborn and it was great!!  It helped so much- talking about how to soothe your baby, difficulties with BF and lack of sleep issues.

This time we are taking a 1 night childbirth refresher class through the childbirth association in town.

  • Wow, my hospital must be the exception - all of our classes are one day and most are only 2 - 2 1/2 hours! We did infant CPR already and the labor/delivery class last week. That was wasn't all that useful, mostly stuff I already knew but oh well. I'm doing one more, basic baby care, at the end of the month. DH would NEVER have gone with me if it was weeks on end, it was hard enough getting him to go for one night! LOL I also did a breastfeeding class at BRU, and that was just one night as well.
