3rd Trimester

Why did my doctor ask me about baby movement?

Both the nurse and my doctor asked me if the baby was moving around lately. It sounded like a routine qustion but now I'm concerned and thinking that I should pay EXTRA attention to his movement!

Re: Why did my doctor ask me about baby movement?

  • They both ask me that at every visit.

  • I'm not sure, but wouldn't they have told you to notice more if they were concerned?  They probably just asked since you're so close to your due date or something.  I wouldn't worry about it.  :)

  • They've asked me that same question since 20 weeks. I think it's routine.
  • they ask so that if you say you haven't really noticed movement they'll pay more attention, have u do kick counts & maybe to an extra u/s.
  • I think it's a routine question and one asked out of curiousity. My OB always asks me about movement and her nurse (who is also my good friend) always asks as well. As a matter of fact, up until the OB is ready I am expected to sit quietly and let the nurse (my friend) feel my belly for kicks. She says it's routine, but I think she's lying, LOL! Oh well, doesn't bother me!

  • Its a regular question and no need to freak...

  • My doctor has asked me this at every appointment since 26 weeks.  I would be they just want to be sure that you're feeling movement and that things are ok on that front.

    I wouldn't be too worried.

  • I've been asked at every visit since like 22 weeks

  •  Yes you should have atleast 10 kicks in a hour you probably know this cause you are due any day now but my nurse and dr ask me that all the time its routine and also because later in pregnancy you have to track the baby's movement.
  • my doc has asked me the same question at every visit since about 20wks.
  • Its a standard question your going to hear up until you delivery.  No worries.
  • Got it. Maybe I have been also asked this every visit and just now noticed it???

  • im asked this every appt. rather than told to do kick counts.
  • If you notice or are experiencing a lack of movement, then there is a need to be concerned...that is why they ask. If you answered no...they would usually do an NST and/or ultrasound to make sure fluid levels are good and stuff like that.

  • My doctor has paid more attention to movement since about 35-36 weeks.  Before that, she said as long as you feel baby moving everyday you're fine.  But now she asks me if I make sure I'm doing kick counts, etc.  I guess they probably want us to make sure LO's aren't in any distress these last few weeks.

  • I am pretty sure that is a routine question because they also ask me at each visit.  They have a kick count chart on this site you can use if you want to monitor it.
