Question about GD

For those of you diagnosed with GD, did you have any signs before you were diagnosed? I failed my 1-hour glucose test, and was told that I will most likely fail my 3-hour test as well. I am on 60mg of Prednisone daily and it has caused me to become insulin resistant. I get really dizzy and have a rapid heartrate after eating and then my body just feels like it is going to crash, I get so tired. Also I have a question about numbers after fasting. I was monitored in the hospital a few nights ago after some spotting, I hadn't eaten in about 4 hours and had my finger pricked after my urine came back with a high amount of sugar. Is 127 high after not eating for 4 hours?

Re: Question about GD

  • I don't have any symptoms and didn't before I was diagnosed. I think 127 is probably high for not eating in the past 4 hours. Good luck! If you do get the GD diagnosis this board has a lot of great suggestions.

  • 127 does seem a little high for not eating in 4 hours.
  • I did notice increased thirst before I was diagnosed, which is a symptom of diabetes.

127 sounds high after fasting for 4 hours. It means your body is probably making it's own sugar. Make sure you have health snacks throughout the day to keep your body from making sugar on it's own.

  • Thank you ladies, Im sure my doctor will explain it more tomorrow, but I didn't want to go into my appointment being clueless.
  • For those of us who test 2 hours after a meal, I think that most of us have a target of 60-119 at 2 hours, though I think a few people are only supposed to be under 130 at 2 hours.

For those who test at 1 hour, some of them with stricter doctors want them to be under 120 at 1 hour.

Still, at 4 hours, I would expect my number to be well under 100, probably upper 80s/lower 90s. So yeah, it sounds fairly high to me.
