Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

I love parenting advice from non-parents...

My uncle has so many "theories" about parenting because he dated a girl with a kid a few years ago.  He also told me that he thinks I should follow what THE DOG WHISPERER says... but for Jude.  LOLOLOL... ok!

Oh and Jude has started biting because "I raised him that way."  Did you know that, fellow moms of toddlers?  When your child starts smacking you, biting, throwing things across the room - it's because of the way you've been raising them to do that!  Good to know, childless uncle!  You just have to laugh sometimes.

  • Your uncle is so wise!  Now I see that Henry learned to bite, hit and throw himself to the ground screaming because I do all of those things on a daily basis!  I guess I will have to stop.  Please thank your uncle for me.

Yeah, I'll need to tell DH to stop throwing the phone at the TV when he's mad or biting me to get his way!

  • Yep, it's just one of those things you learn once you have a child of your own that you're with all the time.  I used to judge parents w/ screaming kids in stores.  Now I've learned that you just have to do what you have to do sometimes.  Today I was that mom w/ the screaming kid.  She didn't want me to go down the aisles, she just wanted to stay in the big part.  So every time I rounded a corner to go down another aisle, I'd just say, "I know you're mad, but we have to get groceries, and we have to go down the aisles to get groceries."  And that was merely for the benefit of all of the ppl staring at us, LOL.  She's a sweet baby, and usually very happy--but today she knew what she wanted, and what she didn't.  But we needed food, so that was that.  I know what some of them were probably thinking, but oh well!

  • lol TO THE Dog Whisperer bit. I acutally employ the same theories when my kids go haywire. Granted, I don't grab them behind the neck to show authority, but usually when they go absolutely insane it's b/c they need more alpha ie...clearer rules on behavior.
  • Oops, you mean all that trying to bite me, clawing me when he's mad, and throwing stuff is because I raised him to do that to me?!

. . .now if only I could figure out what I did to cause that behavior. . .well, it must have been all those times I bit him. . .  Confused

Disclaimer:  I have never bitten my child.

Your Henry sounds just like my Henry... it must be the name.

Or my bad parenting, of course. ;)

  • yes, you need to say "shh!" and pull on his neck tuft.  toddlers have those, right?
  • I wonder if you could crate train your toddler also:)
