Anybody with Preterm PROM?

My water broke yesterday @ 34 weeks, and have been since then in the hospital, hoping to be here for another 2 weeks when it becomes safer for the baby to come. Anyone else experience this? GL luck to you all!

Re: Anybody with Preterm PROM?

  • That happened with my first but my labors are so very quick that I had a baby in my arms within 4 hours. Everyone was astonished. I'll be thinking of you, hoping baby stays in there for a while longer. Sounds like you're in good hands.  :)

  • With my first, my water broke at 33 weeks and I was in full-blown labor about 30 minutes after it broke so I had my son about 6 hours later.

I know it's scary, but 34 weekers do pretty well and I'm sure they've probably given you the steroid shots for lung development which is huge - they help the baby a lot.

My son was in the NICU for 12 days and then came home with no complications and you'd never know he was a preemie unless I told you.

Good luck to you -  I hope they can keep that baby in :-)

  • That is the same thing that happened with my DS.  They weren't able to stop my labor, but I did get in one steroid shot before he was born.  He was in the NICU for 9 days learning to eat, grow and control his body temperature.  He is a beautiful 17 month old now with no problems whatsoever.  Hang in there.  I know how scary it is...and it is NOT YOUR FAULT!!!

Feel free to PM me if you need anyone to talk to.

  • I had unexplained PROM--my water randomly broke at work while I was sitting at my desk.  DS was born at 32 weeks, spent 15 days in the NICU, and is now a very active 16 month old!  If you are able to write a post, sounds like they were able to stop labor. :) I went in at 7pm and they tried to stop labor all night long to no avail and at about 1:30 pm the next day I had DS.  Hope you can keep your LO in longer but also know if you do have your LO early, things will likely be just fine!

  • The same thing happened to me but at 32 weeks.  They were able to slow down my labor enough to receive both doses of the steroid shot.  DS was born almost 48 hours to the minute after receiving the first shot.  He was 4 lbs 10 oz when born and spent 14 days in the NICU.  He did come home on an apnea monitor but didn't have a single episode at home.  He's now a happy healthy 14 monther.  Good luck!

  • My water broke at 34w5d and they did nothing to stop the labor,  they hooked me up to pitocin and said today is the day!  Water broke at about 6:30am and DS was born via c/s at 7:30pm.  He spent 9 days in the NICU almost all of them only with feeding/growing issues.

  • Ditto pp.  My water broke at 34w6d; they gave me pitocin and I delivered about 15 hours later.  DD spent a week in the NICU but is now a healthy, active 2-year-old and there have been no long-term effects from her prematurity.  Good luck and hang in there!
