Hi there. I feel terrible; I posted this exact question a few months ago, but didn't act on it right away and now my post fell off the end of my 'my posts' and I can't read your responses. I'd love for everyone's help again.
I moved to Atlanta, from Michigan, about three years ago so I don't know much about different hospitals and Doctors here. I went to one appointment with a male Doctor in the area and while I did not have a bad experience, I found myself holding back and not feeling totally comfortable. I never thought I would be one to care, but I think I prefer a female Doctor.
I live in the North Atlanta area and am looking for an office that isn't too far a drive. And I'm sure everyone wants this, but I'm also looking for an Doctor (and office for that matter) that is down to earth and easy to talk to.
Also, if any of you have any Midwife or hospital recommendations, I would appreciate those as well.
THANK YOU!
Re: OB/GYN / Midwife / Hospital rec's
I definitely agree w/ pp about choosing the hospital you want to deliver at first and going from there. I delivered at Northside and had a fabulous experience. They deliver the most babies a year of any hospital in the country - but you never feel like you are in a factory. They really make you feel at home there and take great care of you and baby. I have spent A LOT of time at N'side hospital over the years, outside of the women's center (in the main hospital), and have always been very happy with my experiences.
My OB is Dr. Phoebe Sun with Women's Health Associates at Northside. She is VERY easy to talk to and extremely down to earth. The other two doctors in the practice are Dr. Houston and Dr. Soufi (also female). I absolutely loved Dr. Houston when I met her in the office and at Northside. I delivered before I had a chance to meet Dr. Soufi, but have heard great things about her, as well. There are quite a few of us on the board that see one of the three and love our OBs!

If you decide to go with Northside I recommend my ob-gyn office. It is North Atlanta Womens Specialists. I see Carol Hess there and she is so wonderful and easy to talk with.
Good Luck!
Ditto this almost exactly. I also see Dr. Sun and absolutely love her! I've also met both Dr. Houston and Dr. Soufi. Dr. Houston is fabulous and Dr. Soufi is really nice too. You can't go wrong with any of the three of them.
Also, do you prefer a smaller practice? Something to think about....
I love my OB, Dr Michelle HOuston who is with Dr Sun and Soufi and delivers at Northside. That being said, when I went into labor, they were all off that weekend and another doc that covers for them delivered...which was ok by me, but I know it would make some people mad as that is one reason to go to a smaller practice so that you have at least met the doctor when you deliver.
For many years Dr Debra Brand was my OB and she is out of piedmont...which is a fantastic hospital. Its a bigger group and has men and women in it, also has midwives. When we moved I switched doctors as I was high risk and knew I would be going to my OB alot so chose a doc closer to my work and home. I did LOVE Dr Brand though.
Ditto on Dr. Soufi, Dr. Sun and Dr. Houston... I see Dr. Soufi, but have met the other two doctors and loved them.
I just moved from Florida a couple of months ago (I was about 28 weeks preggo when I moved) and they made me feel so comfortable, like I have been going there since day 1 of my pregnancy. I can't tell you much about hospital and delivery in general because I am due in a couple of weeks
Hope it helps!
I wanted to through in a vote for my doc though I agree with picking a hospital first. I just delivered at piedmont 2 weeks ago and had the best experience with both my doctor and the hospital.
My doctor wasn't on duty the day I delivered and was actually suppose to be in surgery she not only came in all morning (between her appointments) to check on me as well as stalled her surgery patient as long as she could to be with me through delivery. After delivery she came back to check on me as well as right before I was discharged from the hospital..... i seriously love this lady! and she is 100% down to earth and approchable.
