My best friend and her Mom threw my first shower and I got them each a personal gift. My BF is also pregnant, so I am taking her out for a prenatal massage and dinner (with yummy dessert, of course!). For her Mom, I bought a basket and filled it with items that she loves (coffee mug, her fav candy, a Barnes and Noble gift card, a Dunkin Doughnuts gift card, and a candle).
I got them some cute fleur de lis cheese knives. A large group of friends hosted my two showers, so I wasn't able to spend as much on each hostess as I would have liked; however, they seemed to really like what I gave them. Good luck.
Money is tight for us. I wish that I could have gotten them more, but they understand and were happy.
For the mini-shower (6 girls from college), I got that friend a little travel bag of Bath and Body Works products for relaxation. (sale...$10)
For my best friend and SIL, I got them each their fave lotions, sprays, and body washes from B&BWs. They aren't the big bottles but not travel size. For my best friend, I got her a bottle of wine she loves. For my SIL, I got her a necklace w/ a charm for aunties. The total was about $25 for each.
The last shower is being given by my mom. I'll probably just get her some picture frames to put Leah's pics in. She doesn't like getting gifts from us anyways...she wants us to save our money.
I had a bunch of hostesses and was on a budget. I bought some super cute chinese take out looking boxes at hobby lobby and filled them with homemade powdered cookie balls. They had a bunch of patterns, came with a ribbon, and were pretty cheap. I got lots of compliments and spent less that $5 on each girl. Score!

My mom is throwing my shower and I am getting her a gift card to her nail salon and a restaurant gift card.
I did the friends shower 2 years ago and she gave me a silk Coach scarf which was super nice!?
For my first shower, I made them "fall baskets" with candies, homemade treats, Yankee candle, and fall decorations.
For my second shower, I bought them monogrammed totes from Lands End.
