TTC after 35

Appointment was a bust...

It never occurred to me when I made my mammo appt over a month ago that I should consider whether I'd be in the 2ww.  So I'm chatting with the technician this afternoon, boobs out and about, and she says, "And there's no chance you're pregnant, right?"  Well....I said it was unlikely, but I AM trying and won't know for certain until next week.

And that was the end of that.  No mammo.  "Come back after you get your period and you are certain you're not pregnant."

Appointment was a total bust.  (Pun intended.)

  • I just had the same experience with the dentist!  I should have known that they couldn't see me, but I showed up and the dental assistant asked the standard pregnancy question.  When I told her I was ttc, she showed me to the door!  I was like "but, can't you just do the cleaning??!!"  Not!!

  • My dentist just does the cleaning.

  • Bummer! Sorry to hear that but good for you for getting a mammo!

I hadn't really thought about the dentist appt. I am going in two weeks. Should know by then though, so am in the clear. Why is that anyways?

  • That's weird about the dentist. I can see skipping the x-rays, but why can't they do the cleaning?  I couldn't even get the ultrasound---they want to do everything at once.  So I totally wasted 2 hours today.

  • Maybe it was b/c I was seeing a new dentist.  I should probably call my former dentist and see if they can just do the cleaning...
  • Sorry for the wasted time, but I am hoping that you are K/U and that you have to wait 9 months before you can go back.
  • Sorry hon....

But.... wouldn't it be lovely if you are indeed pg? ;)

  • I hope you are KU! But sorry you had a "bust". lol.
  • I had the same thing asked of me when I was at my mammo appt.  Of course, I had just gotten my period so I started crying when I said no- I wasn't pregnant.  The tech was completely taken aback and I had to explain we were trying with no luck.  She ended up being so nice about the whole thing.

I think the dentist didn't want to do the cleaning because bacteria can get into the bloodstream and possibly harm a fetus. That's why you always have to take antibiotics after dental surgery.  I read about that when I was pregnant and it freaked me so much I didnt' go to the dentist at all while I was trying to conceive and after I was pregnant.   I think it was 2 years before I finally went!

By the way- I just read your response about the firetruck cake on my post.  Tell your friend to try it.  It is sooo easy.  It's just rectangles I cut from a big sheet cake and then I iced it red.  I stuck oreos for wheels and then drew some windows and a ladder.  It didn't take me long at all and I'm not very artistic!

3 IUI's and 2 IVF's later- Brady arrived. Born at 36 weeks after PUPPS and pre-e/HELLP.
IUI- BFN IVF #1 -BFP! Allie is our 2nd IVF baby. Born at 36 1/2 weeks after pre-e again

  • going to the dentist during pregnancy and TTC is important! there is no risk to getting a simple cleaning!

i'm amazed at a dentist that would turn away a woman ttc or a pregnant woman.
