Ok, so in further attempt to liven the place up (on a weekend?!?! WHY OH WHY would I even try this on a weekend??!?!?!) here is a poll:
What solids does your kiddo eat so far, and what are their likes (if any) and dislikes (if any).
My answer:
We started solids at 6 months and Harris has had rice cereal, oat cereal, avocado, sweet potatoes, winter squash, peas, peaches, prunes, bananas, green beans. We are starting apples tomorrow. Barley will probably be next. I have made everything myself except for the rice and oat cereal.
He LOVES rice cereal, oatmeal, and peas. He likes almost everything else pretty well.
He isn't the biggest fan of peaches. I think they are too tart. He makes a sour face every single time and while he will eat it, he never finishes a bowl like he does everything else. He won't even finish it when we mix it with something else.
Re: Solid Food Poll
M has had everything except shellfish at this point. Her faves are yobaby anything, pizza, & fruit. But it has to be big enough for her to hold onto & eat. No more pieces.
She hates.... peas, fish, and veggies. I have to sneak veggies in. I've been super creative so far. I mix purees into marinara sauce, spinach fettucini, carrots in the meatloaf, etc. She does eat them if they're cooked to death in chicken broth though. Oh and campbells alphabet soup. I figured it's better than her not eating veggies at all.
crazy - out of curiosity, has her dislike of veggies been since the beginning or did it start later? When you started solids did you start with fruits or veggies? If you started with fruits, do you think it influenced her opinion of veggies? Would you do the same when you have another baby or try starting with veggies?
We started with veggies and things less-sweet because I had heard about babies refusing veggies once they've tried the sweetness of fruits. I don't know how true it is, but a friend of mine started with veggies and her little girl LOVES veggies now. I'm hoping Harris will be this way too, but I just don't know. I'm probably messing it up by creating bizarre mixes with the veggies he does have (lol...i did green beans mixed with banana yesterday. DH says I'm torturing him). He'll grow up thinking bananas are supposed to be green and his green beans don't taste right. lol.
We've done basically all the purees, plus oatmeal and wheat cereal..
She likes pretty much everything.. She seems to like veggies, especially the orange ones (Carrots, squash, sweet potato) better than fruit.. Which I think is weird, but whatever..
She does hate puffs.. If I put them in her mouth she spits them right out.. She will however eat small pieces of bread, and loves to chew on a big piece of crusty bread.. I also gave her the tiniest piece of cheese yesterday. I think I will start giving her more cheese soon.
On a related note.. I had a table tonight with a 5.5 month old little girl.. and the mom asked me for carrot sticks to give to the baby.. I am guessing just so she could gnaw on them since there is no way a baby could really bite/chew a carrot stick..

Kailey eats pretty much anything these days. She LOVES veggies! The only fruit I can get her to eat are mandrin oranges and bananas. Occasionaly she'll eat applesauce, but that's rare. She loves ravaoli, toast, cheese.
Her favorite snack food is the gerber freeze dried strawberries and bananas. She also likes the freeze dried sweet corn.
Solids tried so far: We started with purees and rice cereal/oatmeal. She just tolerated them, even the fruits. We did that for a month or two, but it felt like a total waste of money because she would eat hardly any so we moved on to soft finger foods like fresh fruits scraped with a spoon, mashed veggies, tiny pieces of bread, etc. My H feels guilty for not giving her a tiny bit of every food he eats so she also has tried ice cream and popsicles. sigh.
Favs: it's funny your little guy hates them, but her favorite are peaches, then apples, mango, bananas, mashed veggies/soup, bread, puffs, mum mums.
Hates: corn for some bizarre reason, peas and avocado didn't go well
She seems like a picky eater so far.
