Are these contractions???

I am trying to determine if I am having contractions or not.  I should remember...I just went thru this a little over a year ago.  I did experience contractions....painful...was 6 cm went I got to the hospital and had the baby w/in a couple of hours.

This go round, I have placenta previa and have had the living daylights scared out of me about contacting the doctor at the first signs of labor and/or bleeding.  The bleeding I've had over the last few weeks but now I am wondering if I am having some contractions.  The baby is moving around like crazy....(probably from the piece of chocolate pie I just ate :) ) so I don't know if I am feeling pressure from her movements.  I know contractions can feel like period like cramps.  It is a cramping like (not terrible at all) pain in my lower abdomen that isn't continuous...like it doesn't seem to last for 1 minute or whatever.  It happens and then it kind of passes...seems to be happening every 3-5 minutes though..

Can someone remind me about contractions??

    mine feel like period cramps, mixed with back pain.

    I had PTL at 25 weeks this time around and when I was contracting my stomach would get really tight and it would be hard to breath. It wasn't really painful, just more uncomfortable than anything but mine were about a minute or two apart and lasted an hour so I had to go to L&D. Good luck

    I had PTL earlier thsi week and went to L&D -- I was having period liek cramps that I couldn't time -- once at L&D and put on monitos I was shocked to learn I was contracting 3-4 min apart. I would call DR or go to L&D to be safe considering your other issues. GL!!

    kinda sounds like what i've had in the past and i thought they were contractions.  i would just call your dr. because of your condition to be on the safe side!
