My sister's LO was born at 34w and weighed 4lbs 9oz. When she left the hospital a week later she was down to 4lbs 5oz. She is now 2 months old and is just over 5lbs.
I was wondering what the typical weight gain is for a preemie?
That sounds like a fairly low weight gain to me, especially considering the gestational age. My preemie gained half a pound a week for the first 6 months and slowed after that (weight stats are on the right side of my blog). My boy was 3lb, 2 oz at birth and just under 7lbs by 2 months (and that was after a very serious illness). But as long as she is going to regular doctor's appointments, I'm sure if she isn't concerned, its nothing to get too alarmed about yet.
My DD is what the doc calls failure to thrive, she has been on cereal added to the formula since she was a month old, She is now 7 months old and just now 15lbs. Pedi sent us to a GI doc at 2months she is still not gaining the "average" but she is gaining.
Are you breast feeding or bottle feeding? DD weighed 1lb 4oz when she was born and now at 5 months (adjusted age 2 months) she weighs 10.5 lbs. She is on a high calorie formula and gaines about 2lbs a month.
