Should baby and I visit Atlanta???

DH has a business trip to Atlanta next week and I was considering joining him (with DS 4 months.) Not quite sure if the trip is worth it for us. DH is staying at Hotel Palomar at 866 West Peachtree Street. Google maps shows a very business / hotel oriented area. I don't want to go if I'll feel like I'll be staring at the hotel walls all day. We would take the stroller, but not the carseat. Any thoughts or suggestions for me? Would appreciate anything you have to offer.

Re: Should baby and I visit Atlanta???

  • This is only my opinion:  Atlanta is not a walking friendly city, like NYC.   I personally think you would need to have a car or something.

That said, I don't know downtown Atlanta well at all.   I just feel that when we do things intown, we need our car.

Hopefully when the weekend is over and its less quiet on here someone can help you out better than I can.   Looks to me like you'd be kind of close to Piedmont Park.   Not sure if its walking distance though.

  • You won't be very far from the High Museum of Art and The Center for Puppetry Arts. Centennial Olympic Park wouldn't be that far of a quick cab ride for the World of Coke and the Aquarium.

OK, I just posted a long answer and the stupid nest ate it up. Anyway, I basically said it's a toss up. If you don't have friends or family here to visit, then it might be kind of lonely when your DH is in meetings. Like PP said, it is not a pedestrian friendly city. For me, it is kind of a pain to take care of a child somewhere other than your home. Especially at that age, when they're not really interacting and aren't going to get a lot out of the trip. KWIM? Based on what you said, I'd probably stay home. ATL is a great city, but it'd be kind of lame if you're just by yourself with no car. JMO, of course. If you could get childcare and have a date night with DH here, that might be fun. Kind of depends on how far you're traveling, too.

  • Hotel Palomar is right around the corner from my work.  You're close to restaurants and some shops (W. Peachtree and Tech Square, mostly).  But without the car seat, you'd be stuck and not get to go to the close-but not walking distance places like Atlantic Station, the High Museum, etc.
