Baby Playing Hide 'N Seek w/Doppler

So it seems like when we use the doppler to hear baby's heartbeat, we find the heartbeat, hear it for like 5 seconds, then hear a whoosh or smacking like sound, and then don't hear the heartbeat in that area. My philosophy is that baby is playing hide and seek with us and moving away from the sound of the doppler. I have no idea if this is accurate or possible, but does anyone else experience this? ...playful little thing... :)

Re: Baby Playing Hide 'N Seek w/Doppler

  • No experience just like that, but our baby "hid" from the doppler at the doctors and nearly gave us a heart attack.  They had to do an u/s to find it.  At the last appointment (probably because he/she is getting bigger), it was loud and clear thankfully!

  • I usually use the doppler about twice a week and I'd say that my baby plays hide 'n seek 50% of the time.  It's almost exactly as you describe.  I'll find the heartbeat, look at my watch to begin my 15 seconds of timing and then bam, it's gone...sometimes I'll find it again on the opposite side of my stomach, as though the baby has done a complete flip.  There have been instances that it will move 3-4 times before finally settling in to allow me to catch a full 15 seconds of heartbeat.
  • its usually really quick for the doc to find my baby's heartbeat with the doppler....
  • I have an anterior placenta, and the Dr. can never seem to get a good read on the hb with the doppler. It worried me at first, but now I'm used to it.
  • I had my apt at 16 weeks and the baby kept hiding from the doppler. My midwife said the baby is very active, which is good. She had to keep repositioning the doppler.
  • yesterday at my OB visit I had the PA first and it took her like 10 min and she couldnt find it...when there DR came in it took her like 10 seconds then it went away...then she found it again and lost it...shes like "baby must be hiding...moms gonna have her hands full"

  • haha mine doesn't play hide n seek. "peanut" just likes to kick the doppler and make my midwife chase him/her.
