2nd Trimester

When did you start showing?

I'm 14 weeks pg (ticker is wrong) and I feel like I'm starting to show a little.  I know this sounds dumb but I'm worried if I am showing, it's too early.  In other words, what happens if what I'm showing is just unneccessary weight gain?  At my last doctors appointment I hadn't gained any weight, but I haven't been on the scale since then...and admittedly, my appetite has been out of control the past few weeks (ravenous some days, not hungry at all others).  I feel like I heard most people (who are pregnant with #1) don't start showing until 18+ weeks.  Did anyone start showing earlier than that?

This is baby #1 for me and I'm so excited, but a little freaked out by how my body is changing.  I know it's about to change a million times more, and I honestly think a pregnant woman is SO BEAUTIFUL, but it's still hard to picture on myself.  Make sense?!

Thanks!

  • 14 weeks --- I have a pic in my siggy too. :)  It was basically fat just being pushed to other places.....hehe

  • While I didn't get stranger comments or strangers noticing until about 20 wks, DH, myself and my family and friends could see a minibump on me about 14-16 weeks or so.  I was thin pre-preg so people close to me noticed a lot earlier than strangers.  I know how you feel, I think preg women are gorgeous but it was so weird to see it happening to me.  You'll adjust--I LOVE rocking my bump now!

  • I have shown early with both pregnancies. My opinion is that it completely depends the woman. I look pregnant at only 15 weeks, and did last time too.

If you are worried about whether it's excess weight gain, just get yourself back on track with your eating. :)But I wouldn't worry about it :)

  • I started "showing" about 14-15 weeks. It may have been unnecessary weight gain but who the heLL cares :) we are growing babies!!
  • If you look in my bio, I've posted a bunch of belly pics that I started taking at 13 weeks.  I'm 22 now, and you can definitely see progress.  I'm gonna go ahead and say I started showing at 14 weeks, but other people couldn't really tell until I was closer to 17.

  • I am still not showing at 20 wks tomorrow and my dr said it may take a few more weeks...
  • I started showing a little bit at 14 weeks :)
  • Somewhere between 20 and 22 weeks.
  • i've just started showing about about 21-22 weeks. :]]

1st - there's no such thing as unnecessary weight gain. YOU"RE GROWING A PERSON. And at this stage, particularly if you had no gain at your last appointment, you're FINE.

I started showing about 14 weeks, but it wasn't until 22 weeks that strangers noticed. I'm 26 today and am obviously pregnant...depending on what I wear.

Everyone's body is different. I'm tall, with a long torso, and I am a climber (when my belly isn't in the way, that is) so I had rock-hard abs, which hold everything in. I have a friend who is shorter, short-torsoed, and not a climber and if you compare our bump pictures she was bigger faster. It's not big deal.

Don't compare yourself to anyone but yourself and don't worry about your weight too much.

  • I think everyone is different.  I had a small bump around 16 weeks, lost my waist around 12.  Now it is DEFINITELY apparent that I am pregnant.  It is strange, but I love my big belly.  I have always looked at pregnant women and though "I can't wait til I am pregnant".  And now I am and love rocking the bump!

This.  Everyone is different and will gain/show at different rates.  And believe me, I understand the whole reconciling yourself to the changes your body is going through.  It is WEIRD to see my stomach stick out so far these days and I won't go into the giant boobies, etc.

My last appointment was 3 weeks ago and I had not gained a pound yet, but starting at 12 weeks when I held my stomach in, it was no longer flat.  I am still wearing all of my pre-pregnancy pants and to the random stranger I don't think I look pregnant but people I know can see a difference.

  • I started weighing about 118 pounds...by week 10 i had gained maybe 5-8 pounds...and frankly i didn't quite fit in my clothes anymore!! ....i started showing soon after 10 weeks....as far as i am concerned =)
  • Im 14 weeks and clearly showing to anyone that knows me. Im only 5'3" and short waisted so there isnt much room for it to go and I have only gains 3-4 lbs so its not weight gain either.

Everyone is different, my bff was looking clearly pg at about 10-11 weeks, yet others i know didnt show anything until much later. The worst thing I found with my bff was everyone kept asking her if she was having multiples or if her due date was off.. but really she got it early and its grown pretty slowly.

  • The pic in my sig was taken yesterday and I just started showing, so for me, 16 weeks. But when I just wear regular clothes, you can only tell a bit (it kind of still looks like fat). I wish I was showing more- be proud and don't worry about weight gain (your dr. will tell you if it's a problem).

  • I considered myself to be "showing" with DD at 14 weeks. When I go back and look at the belly picture, I just laugh Smile There is a little TINY bump, but it's hardly anything. Still, I felt huuuuuuuuuuuge!

But even people who knew me didn't always notice that I was pregnant until I was 25+ weeks along. So even though I felt like I was showing, it wasn't really all that obvious to others.

  • I think I started to show around 15-16 weeks.

  • I got TWO strangers comments today at the mall, and no I wasn't carrying a MM bag =) I kinda wish it took a bit longer, but it's here so I might as well enjoy it!

  • Thank you so much for all of your comments - you guys honestly made me feel so much better (and so much more normal!)!!
  • My ticker is wrong too. What the heck??  Anyway, I had to start wearing maternity clothes at 11 weeks....even though most people probably can't tell that I'm pregnant, unless they know me really well. I am a little underweight, so maybe I started showing early because I have such a flat stomach. I totally understand about picturing yourself pregnant. It's my first too, and I feel the same way. Don't worry about the weight gain (or lack of)...  I have already gained 9 pounds, and I feel like that's a lot!  Everyone is different. As long as your doc says everything is fine, I wouldn't worry.

  • I had a bit of a small bump at 14 weeks, but now that I am 15 weeks I am showing quite a bit.  It's amazing what happens in a weeks time.
  • i sorta popped at 14 weeks. i had no belly one night, and woke up the next day with this ... belly! lol. its different for everyone and smaller girls will show earlier, guess thats why i was showing at 14 weeks.
  • im in the same boat as you- im 16 wks on monday and i feel like im huuuge. i just ironed a maternity shirt for church tomorrow morning (the first time ill wear anything thats maternity).

im 5'1 and was 110 prepreg. at 13 wks i had gained 3 lbs. i eat well and exercise so i guess its not that im gaining too much too fast, so im attributing my size to being short waisted. my MIL said something today about me being smaller and showing later (she didnt see my size bc i had a hoodie on) but her logic seemed like crap to me. i expressed that my doc said it would prob be the total opposite since it has no where to go but out.

and to the pp who said the comment about dont compare yourself to anyone- thanks! i needed to read that too!

  • Barely starting to show now
  • wow! I started showing at 11 weeks! I was really skinny before I got pregnant (and had only gained 2lbs) so thats probably why, but still. Most of you were into your 2nd tri before you started to show.
