when rocking DD to sleep, she sucks on her tongue, burp cloth, our shirts, whatever she can get her mouth on. she's swaddled so she's not using her hands, although they haven't satisfied her when she does get one out. sometimes it prevents her from falling asleep for a loooong time.
every time i offer her the paci (crying or not), she cries harder and turns her head. i've tried every kind out there, but she wants nothing to do with any of them. if she eventually learns to soothe herself w/o one, i'm okay with it but it will be a while until we start that process and i think a paci would help. i'd at least like her to take it in the car b/c she screeeeams the whole time.
am i SOL, or should i just keep trying?
Re: wants to suck but won't take paci
Most of the time whenever DS does this he's tired so I just gently put it in his mouth and hold it there and 'shh' him and he'll take it and quiet down.
Maybe try a different kind of paci? DD has recently started rejecting the soothie but loves the Nuk paci.
Also, I agree with PP about shh'ing LO while putting it in their mouth. I usually just barely touch the tip of the paci to her tongue/lip and she'll take it.
