When your milk first came in was there a lot or did it take a little while to regulate? Was it white, or more of a thin yellowish fluid?

My milk just came in over Thursday night, and I'm a little worried that there's not enough of it. When DD eats, she sucks well for a long time, but doesn't do the gulping I've heard of, and I don't really see any white on her lips or in her mouth.

I hate not knowing if she's getting enough to eat or not.

    I knew when my milk came in bc my boobs were huge and hurt really bad! If she was hungry she would probably get frustrated at your breast. Congrats by the way!

    Do you have the Dr. Sears Breastfeeding book? It is GREAT! If you don't, send DH out to get it for you! Lots and lots of info!

    If I remember correctly the day that Landon was born it was a thin yellowish fluid and then it turned white and milky by the next morning.

    She'll let you know if she isn't getting enough and they will nurse for along time in the beginning. Are you offering her both sides?? The gulping usually only happens when you have a fast let down reflex. And I wouldn't worry about not seeing it.

    Hey - congratulations! ?Your DD is adorable :)

    My milk came in when DD was 3 days old, and there is definitely a lot of it - actually, too much. ?DD gulps like crazy, but it gives her gas and she spits up a ridiculous amount. ?In fact, we determined at her 2-week appointment that she is eating too much and too quickly and that is making her super-fussy. ?(She was born at 6.5 lbs and weighed 8 lbs at her 2-week!) If your LO is hungry, she will let you know it. ?I wouldn't worry about it too much. ?I wish mine knew when to stop eating (also, my milk has not regulated yet; there is still way too much).?

    Congrats on your cutie!!!

    When my milk came in, EC would nurse and nurse and nurse.  And she did that for a couple of months.  It would take 40 minutes for me to feed her - so long that DH doesn't believe me when she's done in 15 minutes these days.

    If your DD isn't crying and nursing at the same time (except maybe when she latches on), then she's getting food.  If my milk doesn't let down fast enough, I hear about it!  Also, will you go to your drs office on Monday - my dr likes to check bfing babies after a week to make sure the mama's milk came in and baby is gaining weight?  You'll be able to tell that she's getting enough by her weight gain.

    You can also go to a LC's office and weigh your DD before nursing and then weigh her after to see how much she's getting.  Either ask your dr or your hospital to help you find an LC's office.

    P.S. My milk is usually white but it has been known to change to a yellow-ish color.
