3rd Trimester

BH vs Contraction...

so ive had plenty of the non painful BH,  but ive also had some slightly different ones (that also dont really hurt) but they will start small and intensify, and ill feel it all the way from the top of my tummy to my cervix.  and the cervix clenching part is the big part that is different.  is this a legitimate contraction?

Re: BH vs Contraction...

  • I've heard and experienced persona;;y if you have a hard time talking or walking through it then its the real deal. Otherwise its just BH. But some women have high pain tolerances too...

  • also pay close attention to what your feeling in your back....once you feel the VERY low back pain and pressure....THAT is when its time to start focusing on timing.

and yes, when the real ones come on, trust me....they will very literallytake your breath away.

When you are in active labor (4-7 cm dilated) you will have contractions that you can't walk/talk through. Believe me, there is a HUGE difference...I contracted for 3 days every 2-5 minutes last week before Natalie was born. The contractions were uncomfortable but NOTHING like active labor with your water broken!

Last night the nurse told me that on a scale of 1-10 the pain should be a 10. She described it as "surgery with no medication kind of pain". Yikes.

  • Real ones hurt like you wouldn't believe, I was doubled over it pain and there was no way I could talk through one. With my first pregnancy I kept wondering if I would miss the signs of contractions, but this time around I am pretty sure it will be obvious if I am in labor. The only thing I don't know about is back labor, I hear that can be a duller more consistent pain vs. timeable contractions.
