No more children due to practicality issues?

So, I'm cleaning house today. Good-bye changing table and baby toys. I got rid of all the bigger baby items about a year ago. Today I feel good about our decision to not have anymore children due to so many practical reasons including age and financial factors. It's tough though, my "baby" just got his first hair cut and turns two in another week. I don't think I'll ever feel completely at peace, but the thought of getting my life back @ some point also looks good. Anyone else struggle with this?

Re: No more children due to practicality issues?

  •  I am TTC #3 and it has taken us a while and on top of my frustrations surrounding that I already have started  to think about that b/c my boys are turning more into little boys everyday.  I wish I could freeze time sometimes.

  • We are done.  We are both older (37 and 44), so it just makes sense.  I am looking forward to having my spouse back, since little ones take so much time.  I love my babies though.  I am a big fan of the little people, but I look forward to being less tired and having more me time and getting out more.
  • There are multiple reasons why we are done after the birth of our thrid child, pratical being one.  We have no more room for future children, we do plan of moving in the future but not any time soon.  Our car is already practical for three but DH's isn't for 4.  We both work FT and affording 4 would be tough...not so sure I want to wait 5-6 years for a fourth.   Acutally I know I don't.  At times, I already feel pulled thin...so I think 4 would make that worse.  I think 3 is our prefect number and I am sure about that now but worry about feeling the way you do in the future....not a peace.   We will be doing permanant BC as I don't want my/our heart to get in the way of practicality/affordability....

  • I am a firm believer you that only you know what is right for youa nd your family. with that said we 'orginally' planned on TTC#2 starting this past July. I went off the pill in March and still am off it, but as it got closer dh and I decided that we were going to wait bc of cost and teh fact that DS is a dec bday we have another 3 yrs before he will go to K. DC for two 4days a wk would cost us close to 1400 a month and thats just too much. We dont want to have to strruggle bc we feel its not fair to DS. So we will talk about it again this summer and see where we are at.

I was a bit sad at first, but now and fine with our decision. I am an only child and bc of that with DS turning 3 in dec everyone asks if we are going to make ds an only child. people are just so ballsy. lol!

  • There are so many things I want my girls to experience and I know that only having 2 kids, as opposed to 3 or 4, will make my plans for them more practical. I like that we are "even." It will make traveling and vacationing eaiser I think.

DH and I are fairly young (25 & 26) and my mom swears when I hit 30 I'll be dying to have another baby, but I think my more practical side will win out.

I will always want another baby... but I don't NEED one, of that makes sense. I know there are some mothers who just have to have more kids and I am not one of them.

Oh, and I HATE being pregnant. I only like the labor part of pregnancy.

I am with you when it comes to want vs. need! I think this is what my issue is. Would I ever be done? I think I'll always want more, but I don't need more.

  • Yes. I am happy that I won't have to worry about nap times, baby food and diaper changes. Or worry about cribs and high chairs when we travel. it is freeing.
  • I adore babies and am really excited to have #3 in May, but I'm leaning toward being done after this one.  We were actually really warming to the idea of having just the two we have now, but our BC failed and so we're having another...which is fine, since we'd been kicking the idea around for over a year now.  I figure we can stop after #3, and if I really need a baby "fix", I can always babysit or volunteer at the hospital or something.  It's SO much easier to have older children, IMO.
