I'm getting really close to ovulation. After problems reading the cheaper line tests my first cycle TTC, I went digital (Clearblue easy digital).
Last night, before I went to sleep early, I decided to test, since I'm getting close and testing every 12 hours might make some sense.
I got a nice smiley face at 9 pm EDT. :-)
Hubby and I had done BD just a few hours before, so I told him we'd go at it the next couple days at least, and I'd re-test in the morning to see if I got the same result.
Just retested at 7 am EDT (and took my first temp with a BBT) and got a empty circle.
The instructions say that first thing in the morning testing is okay, yet, I've read on other tests and in other literature some women don't have an LH surge until later in the day (for whatever reason). That's why I went ahead and tested this morning.
Just want to get an opinion if the test last night was some kind of false positive, or if my surge is quick and I should test 2x a day, etc?
Re: Positive OPK and then a negative?
Oh, we'll be making time for BD. Under less than optimal circumstances. We're currently traveling and visiting family. The good news at least there's a guest bedroom.
If it doesn't happen this go around, it won't be from a lack of trying. We've been BDing every PM since Monday. We will definitely do it through Monday, if not a little longer, just to be sure. (DH isn't complaining).
CM seems a little drier today, but I guess there are changes in that. I'm more annoyed I cannot find EWCM as I used to always have before the IUD was removed (non-hormonal).
The big question is that if we are still in TTC mode next month, should I be testing for a LH surge every 12 hours. I'm wondering if this explains why I didn't detect a surge clearly (got darker test line as time went on, but not a same-dark line) my first month TTC.
Or should I just test once a day in the PM? If some women can only get + OPK in evening, why doesn't the CB digital test say so! Grrr. I wouldn't have known if I hadn't used the other sticks the month before.
Let me first say this is only my second month charting, but...
I won't use OPK's at work (I work at a school), so I test when I get home around 4:00pm. Then I started testing twice a day closer to when I thought the surge should be here (desperately hoping to get a positive) - at like 4:00pm and again around 11pm.
When I got my postive last month it was at 3:30pm, then another at 11:30pm. The next day I had a positve at noon (it was a Sunday) and by 7:30pm it was negative again. So I would say mine lasted maybe 24 hours.
Sometimes the surge doesn't last long - only 12 hours is possible, but I do think the later afternoon and evening testing seems to be better. I especially wouldn't use FMU.
BTW - I used the cheap tests from the dollar store and they worked fine for me. The digitals can get expensive.
My problem is an erratic schedule. Unfortunately, some nights, I'm home around 4:30 pm, others around 7:00 pm. I do some casual work in real estate so sometimes I have work after work.
Beyond that, the fluids thing is a concern. I know it says to avoid "excessive" fluid intake before testing and to not go within the last 4 hours. The last four hours part is do-able, as long as I make sure I note the time when I go to the bathroom, but what exactly constitutes "excessive?"
As for the digital thing, this is my last month with digital OPKs, if only because I have a fertility monitor. Unfortunately, I got it at Day 7 of my cycle, too late for this round.
Of course, you know because I blew the money on it, I'll probably get KU this round, and will have to hold onto it for trying to conceive #2. Well, here's hoping... :-)
I did take another OPK at 7 pm EDT (my last stick since I have a monitor) this evening and it was negative. So I'm guessing its less of a afternoon thing, but more like a quick surge thing.
