Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Carter's Newborn Size vs. 0-3 Month...what did your LO fit into at birth?

I'm wondering about Carter's clothing sizes....did your little one fit into their newborn sizes or go immediately into 0-3 months? How big was your baby?

We have alot of Carter's NB stuff and some of the items on the package say they fit up to 8 pounds. My baby is measuring 6-7 pounds at 36 weeks, so she might be borderline if the estimate was correct. I have heard these can vary alot though so we'll have to see how big she is when she comes out!

Thanks Ladies!

Re: Carter's Newborn Size vs. 0-3 Month...what did your LO fit into at birth?

  • for us the carter's NB sizes are still a little big on DD and she weighed 7lb 4ounces at birth
  • Loading the player...
  • my 6lb LO just grew out of premie Carters clothes. she barely fits into NB and shes 6 1/2 lbs
  • NB and DD was 6lbs 3oz. FWIW she is now 12lbs 12oz (as of monday!)  and most of her NB clothes still fit as do the 0-3 now. You'll be suprised how teeny they are when they come out! So scrawny :)
  • My LO wears the Carter's NB size now.. she's pretty long though.. they are still a little big but a preemie size is too small.  She's 5 lbs. HTH!

  • My daughter can still where some carter's NB and she can where all their 0-3 tops/onesies.  Althouhgh, some of the pants run a little short on her.

  • My DD was 7lb 3 oz at birth and is still in Carters NB clothes. Carters are about the only clothes that fit her really well right now. Nothing 0-3 fits! I can't shop at Old Navy or Children's Place yet because their clothes don't fit her right now. I bet DD is almost 9 lbs now (if not more). I was really surprised how long she has stayed in NB clothes. I had to go and buy all sorts of long sleeve stuff in NB sizes. I highly recommend getting NB stuff!
  • L was 5lbs 10 oz at birth & the NB stuff was huge on him. He wore NB for about 7 weeks, maybe a little more. He is now in 0-3 months and starting to move towards 3-6 months, he weighs about 12-13 lbs now.

  • My son was 8lbs 9ozs when born and fit into all of the NB clothes for almost a month.  He has some 0-3 summer clothes that he never even got to wear because he was in NB almost until it got too cold out for shorts :(
  • My daughter is about 6lbs 12oz and NB is still kinda big on her, 0-3 is too big for sure...

  • Isela wore NB for the first 4 weeks or so, she's now in 0-3, but some stuff is just starting to get a little snug so I also put her in some 3-6.

  • Carter's newborn was big on DS when he was born and still fits now. He was 7lbs, 10 oz at birth. He's 8lbs, 2 oz as of earlier this week.
  • S was 8 lbs when she was born and she fit into NB. She now is 10lbs 9oz and still fits into some of her NB clothes.

  • My DD is about 9lbs now and she is still in all NB clothes.  She was actually wearing a Carter's outfit today and it was NB and it was still big on her.
  • he was 6lbs 7oz at birth & we're still wearing newborn sizes. i do think they are going to go here pretty soon.

  • DD is almost 12lbs and still fits in NB
  • Thanks Ladies. Glad I got alot of NB size stuff...sounds like she will fit just fine unless she comes out way bigger than expected!

  • DD measured 6lbs at 35 1/2 weeks...and weighed 8lbs 2oz when she was born, and was 20 inches long.  She fit into the Carters NB size until she was about 2 weeks old, then she was too long for them.  Both of her outfits for the hospital (picture and take home) were Carter's NB, and thankfully they fit.  She's almost 7 weeks now, and she's wearing Carters 3 month size, but they are still a little bit long for her.
  • li'l i was 8lbs 9oz, and she fit perfectly in carter's nb sizes for about two weeks. she had a few weeks of 0-3 limbo... she'll be two months tomorrow, and she's wearing 3mo and 6mo from carter's.

  • DD was 7lbs 8oz at birth and is now 8lbs 15oz (after weighing her tonight) and is still in Carter's NB size.  The Carter's 0-3 mos are still a little baggy on her (especially the pants).
  • FOR US THE NB WERE BIG ON HIM WHEN HE FIRST CAME HOME.  HE FIT INTO THE 3 MONTHS CLOTHES AT LIKE  1.5 MONTHS.
HE WAS 6 LBS 13 OZ AT BIRTH AND NOW WEIGHS 16 LBS.  FYI HE STILL FITS THE 3 MONTHS SLEEPERS, ONSIES, AND CLOTHES.
  • My DS was 8lbs 10oz & 20" long at birth & his going home outfit was a Carter's in NB size & it was a little big actually. He's now 11lb 7oz & 24" long and wearing 0-3 months although we're about ready to move up a size because of the length.
  • My son is small even for some NB clothes. He was 6lbs 14.5oz at birth. 0-3 absolutely swims on him. We actually had to go out and buy more NB size sleepers because we only had a few- everyone guesstimated we'd have a big baby too and instead he was on the small side.
  • By DD was in NB for about 3 months and she was 7 pounds.  My son was in NB for about 6 weeks but at this time was into some 0-3.  I would say buy a little NB clothing and see how much of a weight gainer your baby is after birth.
  • DS was 8lbs 3oz and 22.25 inches and he wore a lot of Carter's newborn stuff for almost a month.  He still mostly wears 0-3 month pants (cotton) and he's 16.5lbs and 26 inches.  It varies by outfit and how your baby is built.  I go by length more than weight for clothes.
  • DS was 8 lbs 10 oz at birth and wore carters NB about 2 weeks.

  • my son was 9lb 2oz at birth so i put him in 0-3 and they were big but NB would have only fit him for a couple of weeks if at all.

  • Wow DD must be huge lol.. she only fit into Carter's NB for 2-3 weeks.  She was 7.11 and 20.75in when she was born.  By her 1 month appointment she was 9 pounds and in the 95th percentile for length.  So she's really tall.

She now wears size 3 months for Carter's brand.  SOME NB pants fit her, but they are too short, it looks like she is wearing capris. She definitely can't wear NB footsies - seperates work better bc she's so tall.

It depends on the brand - Carter's 3 month size fits her perfectly, but the Target brand of clothes 3 month size is huge.

  • LO measured the same at 36 weeks and was born 9 days late at 9lbs6oz & 22in long.  he did fit into NB size for the weight but not length.  he was only able to wear them for abt two weeks.  My suggestion is to keep tags on the NB items

  • DS was 7lbs 2ozz at birth and had lost some the first week. At 1 week old he weighed 6lbs 8oz He is in NB but the sleeves are all too long. 0-3 is HUGE on him. I have some outifts that I put on him but they are just too large.?

One of the things that I had heard was not to get too much NB stuff. I have found that to not be true myself and from what I have read on here. DS is still in NB and will be for a while. This week we had a weight check and he is now 7lbs 4oz. So just beyond his birth weight.?

  • DS weighed 7 lbs, 11 ozs at birth and only wore newborn clothes and diapers for a couple weeks.  He is a little over 12 lbs now and is starting to wear 3-6 month.  It depends on the shape of your baby as well.  DS is very long so he grew out of clothes faster because of the length.
  • My DS is 8 pounds 7 ounces right now and 21 1/4 inches long, and he is still wearing Carters NB.

  • I think it depends on how your baby is built.  My DD was 9lbs 6oz at birth and fit in Carter's NB for awhile.  However, IMO there is not that much of a difference in their NB and 0-3.  She's been able to wear the 0-3 since birth and she is now 13lbs.  She is long and thin, so the carter's onesie's have fit her well.  My friend's baby was smaller than her, but shorter and stockier and didn't fit into Carter's well at all.  I would leave the tags on most until your LO is born and see how things fit.

  • Gabe filled Carter's NB when he was born 9lb 8oz, 21" long. He's just over 10lbs now and can still (barely) fit NB. I just bought a ton of 0-3 long sleeve onsies there and he's wearing them well.

FWIW, the Circo Sleep 'n Plays at Target in 0-3 fit him very well from birth and I love them!

  • DS was 4.5 lbs at birth and wore preemie stuff for a good 3 weeks or so and then moved to NB size.  I think it has to do with his cloth diapers, but his NB sizes are now getting a bit small in things like footie pjs from carter's and he's moving to 0-3 which is just a bit big. He's between 8-9 lbs right now at almost 8 weeks old.  Old Navy's 0-3 fits him pretty well right now.
