I keep reading about kids eating Puffs and finger foods, and I'm feeling way behind. DS is eating purees (we just moved into stage 2) and he eats 2 jars per day, one at daycare and one at night. I haven't given him anything remotely chunky or pieces of anything. Even though we don't have a history of allergies or anything, I'm so freaked out about him choking or reacting to something. I have even been nervous about giving him the stage 2 jars that have multiple ingredients because I didn't want to overwhelm his system. At what point have others just "let go" and let their LO's try anything (except the obvious big no-no's - eggs, nuts, honey, milk, etc.) Am I being overly cautious? I'm thinking that if he seems happy with what he's eating, I shouldn't rush into "real" food, right? When did you introduce stuff that has been seasoned?
Sigh. It's so hard the first time around to know if you're doing the right thing or not. I just hope the instincts I'm trusting are good ones!
Re: Am I the slowest mom ever? (solids)
no, you are not
DD will be 1 yr old in 3 days and we are still introducing 1 food at a time! she's recently become a nightmare eater, hardly eats anything at all. She has some finger foods but not many, most of what we give her ends up as dog food.
it's OK to take your time!
we are still on stage #1 -- super purees. In fact, we had to hold off on solids this week because of baby's upset tummy... so we're back to sweet potato. I have made my own banana and it's not puree form, just super mashed...
Once her tummy settles, we'll resume more of our solid introductions... perhaps another fruit...
no, you're not slow...but my ped said that I could start giving him those puffs thingies and that it might help a bit with his spitting up.
also, I was worried about the choking issue as well for the puffs so before I gave him one, I ate a couple to see if they really do melt in the mouth and they do--it totally disintegrated by the time I got to the second chew.
We're still pretty much only giving smooth stuff... bananas, apple sauce, peas, greenbeans, pears, peaches...
I figure the chunky stuff can wait until she has at least 2 teeth!
