I am pleased to report that naptime has been going much better.
Partly because DD is actually sleeping, but mostly because I've changed my attitude.
I decided that quiet time will just have to be enough for me and to not worry about how much she sleeps. So the next day I did our normal routine, read a book and laid down with her. I stayed for about 15 minutes. It became clear that she was not going to sleep. I told her that mama needed a nap and that she needed to stay in bed. She made a token protest for maybe 2 minutes. She had a couple stuffed animals and her books are next to her bed and I could hear her playing with them for about half an hour. After that it got quiet and I fell asleep (hey, I *said* mama needed a nap!) I woke up about an hour later and she slept for about a half hour after that.
The next time it went about the same, but only 45min of napping and a slightly cranky evening.
We did it again today except I didn't even read a book or lay down with her. I just told her mama needed a nap and she needed to stay in bed. I think she played in bed a lot longer today, at least 45 min, but I think she's been asleep about 1.5 hours now.
So maybe the time she stayed awake playing for 2 hours was just a fluke, but even if she doesn't, I am starting to accept that just having quiet time is going to have to be enough. It's not an everyday thing because 2x a week she naps at MDO and some days she falls asleep in the car on the way home from our morning activity whether that's just grocery shopping or playgroup both seem to wear her out!
