What Are Good Post-Wash Numbers?

I know what the parameters are for a normal SA, but what are the parameters for a good post-wash sample for an IUI?

TTC in 2008. Stage II/III endo, Hashimotos hypothyroid, low morph (3%).
2 cycles Clomid/Ovidrel/TI/Crinone=BFN.
IUI #1 - 4 Follistim/Ovidrel/IUI/Crinone = BFN.
IVF #1 - Antagonist w/ ICSI 4/10. 17 retrieved, 5DT of 2, BFN :(
IVF #2 - Long Lupron w/ ICSI 6/10. 15 retrieved, 3DT of 2, BFFN!!
Lap 7/21/10
IVF #3 - Clomid/Antagonist w/ ICSI 10/10. 14 retreived, 3DT of 3, BFP 10/20 but m/c. No HB 11/15/10 - D&C 11/17/10.
FET - 2 blasts, 1 survived the thaw. Transfer 2/19. Beta #1 3/1 375, Beta #2 3/3 885, Beta #3 3/8 4261, Beta #4 3/11 9005. U/S 3/8 1 sac 1 yolk, U/S 3/16 1 heartbeat 114bpm!

Re: What Are Good Post-Wash Numbers?

  • I honestly don't know.  But DH had around 56 million today and the doc seemed very pleased.

  • I was just looking into this for someone...apparently anything over 10 million is ideal.

  • Any idea what the motility is supposed to be - is it just the same parameters as for a regular SA - 50%?

My DH's pre-wash sample was 1.5 volume, 100 million count, and 52% motility.  His post-wash numbers were .5 volume, 126 million count, and 50% motility.  This is all according to the nurse, however when my RE did my IUI he said DH's sample was 30 million with 50% motility.

I am SO confused about what all that means.  Hoping it's ok though.

I think it sounds awesome, but I'm not a "sperm" expert.  The counts are definitely great.  I think for motility anything over 30% is considered good. Hopefully someone else can chime in.  I've never worried about the numbers much because the doc says they're fine and the "problem" lies with me.

I don't even know how, but noticed it when I opened it.  I find it kind of hysterical.  Like, really?

  • My RE wants at least 10mil for an IUI. They have had successful pregnancies with as low as 2mil.

They want the motility to be at or above 50%.

TTC #1 since June 2008 *SAIFW*

TI, IUIs, IVF = c/ps and BFNs

This. My RE felt like our post wash sample was "decent" at 5.5mil, but ideally wants over 10mil.

  • I should add that your post wash numbers are great - well into the ideal range!
