Trying to Get Pregnant

TTC Ob/Gyn Appt

We've been trying for about 7 months and I have an appointment on Monday to discuss TTC. I'm planning on taking in my charts-- I've charted my cycles, OPKs and intercourse for 7 months and have been charting temps for 3.

Can anyone tell me what to expect at the appointment? I'm concerned about PCOS. I'm not on CD3 or CD21, so I know that we won't be able to do some of the basic bloodwork-- any ideas what we can do?

Re: TTC Ob/Gyn Appt

  • Unless you're over 35 they might not do much at all.  If you have crazy cycles they are more likely to initiate bw, etc.  That's what happened with me.  If they do initiate pcos testing, it'll likely be cd3 and/or cd21 bw and an ultrasound.  They probably wouldn't do an HSG quite yet, unless you are going to start meds like Clomid.  They will schedule these separately, you won't do it at this appt. GL.

    Totally worth the wait!

  • Most likely you will go over your and YH's medical history and get a bunch of tests ordered.  B/w, possibly and HSG, u/s, etc. for you and a SA for YH.  It probably won't be until you get the results of your tests back that you will start to formulate a plan.

    Good luck!

I agree with Riley on this as well.

  • Thanks all! I'm not over 35 (I'm 29) but since I don't appear to be ovulating every month, my doc didn't want to wait a full year to start checking things out.

You might consider an RE instead.... they are better at this sort of thing. Just FYI :) GL at your appointment.

My insurance does not cover anything (testing, meds, procedures) that's diagnosed as "infertility," so I would like to avoid an RE until absolutely necessary as it will be OOP. If there is a problem, I'd like to do what I can with my ob/gyn. Who knows, maybe nothing's wrong. Smile

Just something to think about though - it won't be diagnosed as infertility until after the testing is done.  And what won't be covered with an RE also won't be covered with your OBGYN :)
